i'm all caught up after not seeing the first 4 shows when they aired (thank you mr. dvr inventor), and, once again, I'm re-introduced to the shivering, invigorating feeling of waiting for the next episode to air. Love this show.

Americans are generally quite apathetic toward soccer it seems, but my next-door neighbor is from Poland, and one of my favorite things to do is watch soccer with him in his liquor store... World Cup, Euro, Champions League, Premiership... he sheds so much light on every aspect of the game, has made me a huge fan, and the free beer doesn't hurt either.

I could see that accounting for Johnson's 83% in 1936, but Cy Young's 76.12% got him in in 1937 with only Napoleon Lajoie (83.58%) and Tris Speaker (82.09%) ahead of him. Both are certainly fully deserving, but I can't imagine writers thinking less of Young than they did of Lajoie or Speaker. What's also interesting is that there are more than a few HOFers who have gained induction thanks to the Veterans Committee who barely receive BBWAA support! Example: Eppa Rixey never garnered more than 13.99% of the vote between 1939 and 1958, suddenly jumps to 52% in 1960, then back to 30% in '61... a

Belle was not a friend of the media, and that, I think, kept him from the 5% needed to stay on. Ripken could play for my team any day. He's deserving, for sure. I know I'm not LouieB, but this is a great starting point for Lady Day: Great sounding 2-disc set that spans her career. "Body and Soul," one of her later albums on the Verve label, is wonderful as well.

This is a huge and largely overlooked point. Kudos, Lou... it's pretty much how popular music as we know it and the music industry began.

God forbid that we'll be hearing "Oops I Did It Again" 40+ years from now. Yes, they were pure bubblegum, but there was substance to that music. It still garners a reaction. Safe to say you feel the same way about, say, the Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, etc.
