Thoughts on the Democratic National Convention
KevinG replied to kidsmoke's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I have issues in general with term limits, but that is a conversation for another time. But Citizens United has to go. That will only happen if Clinton is elected. But with the political revolution, it has started. Bernie has started it. It did not go their way. It was not stolen, it was not taken by devious means. Simply under the the rules of the DNC he lost. Now it is up to his supporters to continue what Sanders started. They need to put down their Pokemon Go and fight for what they believe in. It is hard, the deck is stacked against outsiders, but it can happen. They need t -

I would bet, if Bernie was elected after 4 or 8 years you would be disappointed in him too. There is what is said to get elected and there is the actuality of the job. I think working with the most obstructionist congress ever has a lot to do with Obama's failures. We have to remember the President is not a king. Just because a candidate might say they want free college or to ban all Muslims doesn't mean in January 2017 it is going to happen. This really is the key for the Sander's supporters. The millennials out there need to remain progressive, the need to remain active. They -

No I do not. It has been what 23 years since NAFTA was signed? Looking back at it is probably one of the worst thing about Clinton's presidency. I think she knows it, I think Bill knows it as well. It is silly to pin something that her husband did two decades ago on her. Here is a breakdown from NPR on he evolution on trade. In which she comes out in many statements as critical of NAFTA. http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2015/04/21/401123124/a-timeline-of-hillary-clintons-evolution-on-trade -

I guess it is a good thing Bill Clinton is not running for president. -
Yeah after reading more I found it. Still think the now cast is pretty dumb

Now-cast is really a joke: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/election-update-trump-gets-convention-bounce-drawing-polls-to-dead-heat/ I always thought that was stupid. If the election was held today, this is what would happen. Kind of a worthless metric. The only thing that matters is if the election was held on Nov 4. Ok, that is great. What article? I don't mean to sound bitchy here, but I really like to know where stuff is coming from. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/election-update-trump-gets-convention-bounce-drawing-polls-to-dead-heat/

I know a lot of Cubs fans are not happy with this deal. Essentially it was Chapman for Castro and a bunch of pretty high quality prospects. It will be interesting to see how he jells with the Cubs culture especailly with Rizzo who is the captain of the team. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDsMlEaAwBY Also there is the issue of domestic abuse. That is troubling. I guess if you can sign him to a long term deal and he embraces the team, stays out of trouble, it will be good. But I am weary of this signing right now.

I don't think that is right. http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

Hey that is the same thing I look for in my Doctor, airline pilot, financial adviser, and so on. I mean why would you want someone with experience and training for a job that can impact your life?

I think you are talking about the DNC's email thing, with how they try to stop Sanders (if not correct me), but I have some thoughts on it. As disappointing as it is, it is not that shocking, or surprising. One thing people have forgotten about this whole thing is Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He is not a member of the Democrat party. Yes he caucused with the Democrats, but has for fund raising and other political party functions in his time in congress and the senate he did not participate. Without getting into the mess of money in politics we need to take as a given that it cost

Thoughts on the Republican National Convention
KevinG replied to kidsmoke's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
According to the Washington Post, not so much. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/07/22/fact-checking-donald-trumps-acceptance-speech-at-the-2016-rnc/ But the thing is his "facts" may be supportable, but when the are cherry picked to make his point they are essentially meaningless. The point remains,he is using fear to make people vote for him. -

I am not sure which is more depressing, the hour plus string of lies that the GOP nominee gave last night, the fact the MSM has virtually given him a pass on his lies, or the GOP electorate believes him. Last night's speech proved the GOP is the party of fear. Trump wants to scare the American people with lies into voting for him. Tragic. -

How is Trump gonna stop immigrants from stealing our jobs, when he can't stop them from stealing our speeches? -
Anyone else read for some T in the P? I am not a graphic designer, but I would think that the first day of graphic designer class is not make a logo look like one letter is having its way with another. * *though to be fair, I think any logo that the Trump team would have come up with, would have been met with ridicule.

I assume you live in Indiana, and I gather you are on the left of the political spectrum (pardon if I over stepped my bounds but that is what I see from your posts). I am interested in a first hand account of the job Pence has done as governor, how you state has fared in the last couple of years under his leadership. All I know about your state is from that Religious freedom bill BS from a couple of months ago. I understand that you may not be a fan of his and his policies, but an honest assessment from someone who has seen it first hand would be interesting.

I thought it was going to be Newt. I heard Hannity go on and on about him yesterday. Which kinda makes sense now that this has come to light. http://www.salon.com/2016/07/14/report_sean_hannity_flew_newt_gingrich_on_private_jet_to_trump_vp_audition/

Well it looks like Mike Pence http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/14/politics/donald-trump-vice-presidential-choice/index.html Generally a VP brings in things to the ticket that the Nominee does not. I guess the one thing that Pence did is cave to gay advocates and basically nullify Indiana's Religious Freedom law.

I don't think anything the candidates put forth is something that the President can unilaterally do. Of course they could sign an executive order, but we all know that when you do that you are thumbing your nose at the constitution.
-
Honestly I think Bernie accomplished what he set out to do. He increased his profile nationally. He (and Warren) are the the progressive leaders of this Country. He also moved Clinton and the Dem party closer to his positions. Also he gave Clinton a fight (and a darn good one). He showed that there is a place nationally for a candidate like himself. Maybe in 2020 or 2024 we will see another Bernie Sanders type run and win.
-
Another thing with Warren as VP, as cool as it sounds and the potential set up of Warren as president in 2024, I don't think it would be good. The VP (at least constitutionally) is one of the most ineffectual jobs in Washington. The VP breaks a tie in the senate and becomes the president if anything should happen to the current president. Sure she could be put on special tasks forces to do this and that, but really the job amounts to nothing. I would much rather her stay in the senate. If the senate flips, she will be able to do more there then in the VP slot. The VP is really is a jo

Doubt it, she is scheduled to speak on the first night of the convention. The VP usually is later. My money is on Tim Kaine of Virginia. Or Corey Booker.
-
The VP stakes are heating up. So who you got on the Dem side? Who is willing kill their political career to associate themselves with Trump?
-
Just remember the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a robot bomb.
-
prolly just took himself out of the running for VP.

Fuck the NY Post. It is worse than the National Enquirer. At least the NE knows it is bullshit, whereas people actually think the NYP contains real news.
