  1. I prefer Esquire as well. If it wasn't for all the articles about fashion, they'd both be pretty perfect magazines. I can't say that I'm always interested in the cover story but they have good taste in music, literature, sports, politics...etc.
  2. Ditto that one... We actually stayed for a few songs. I don't hate her and she is pretty to look at. Most walked out band for me would be Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have walked out 3 times. I was there to see the opening act for all of them.... Fishbone, Thelonius Monster and a couple of others. The 3rd time I walked out on them was when they were headlining the 2nd Lollapalooza.
  3. I'm with you...with the exception of the "Trace" comment. I don't listen to "Trace" as much as I used to but it is an absolute classic. However, Sculzunfied, I don't see too many "raving" about "The Search" either. I'd like to see more rave reviews about it. I think it deserves better promotion than Jay has been getting as of late. As far as the comparisons to the Jay solo stuff, I don't completely disagree. My opinion is that both of the Jay solo releases are great albums that were in strong need of a 3rd party editor. "Heart on the Ground", "Dent County" are right up there with an
  4. I generally try and stay out of the REM-bashing threads and generally fail. I agree that Around the Sun isn't their best album but there are many solid songs on the album. They are far from being The Rolling Stones. Leaving New York, Final Straw, Make It All Alright are all very solid. I also think think that they are still capable of putting out a very solid album. I don't believe that any other band has put out such a solid catalog spanning the amount of time that REM has been around. Yes, their latest isn't the strongest of their history. However, in my opinion, at least they are
  5. I've been on a Son Volt kick as of late.... mainly "The Search" but right now kicking a bit of "Straightaways". It's my least favorite Son Volt but I'll be damned if "Back into Your World" isn't one fine tune.
  6. After 2 spins, I'm really liking it. I won't try ranking it. As far as the "huge departure" that it seems to be marketed as, I don't see it. Several of these songs seem like they could have been on "Wide Swing Tremelo". Looking forward to seeing these guys in a month.
  7. I'm not so much a purist as I am disinterested in the torrent thing nowadays. My computer crashed awhile back and it took awhile to get all my iTunes, etc. worked out again. I have never gotten around to reloading the torrent software. I have heard a song or two and the songs are damn fine.
  8. Glenn is one of the more entertaining, and talented, drummers that I have ever seen.
  9. There is still something special about homemade sloppy joes. Sure, they aren't complicated. But I'll be damned if they aren't tasty and filling. Tater tots round out the meal nicely. We had chicken tacos with homemade guacomole.
  10. That is a great poster, Johnny. Amazing stuff. As typical with Tweedy Living room shows, looks like a great time. Hope you all had a blast. P.S. Looks like an absolutely beautiful apartment/condo. Great setting.
  11. I still like "What I Deserve" a lot. Her best release was the EP "Fading Fast" though. Great stuff. Also, if you've never heard her cover of "Rex's Blues" with Jay Farrar, search it out.
  12. How empty would one's life have to be to be a political pundit?
  13. I have to believe that "Goodbye" by Steve Earle is one of the best songs ever written.
  14. I, for one, am not going to search for the leaked tracks. I'm going to wait all the way until Monday to listen to the official "Wilco leaked" track. C'MON MONDAY!!
  15. Really? I went to that place recently and I thought it was horrible. Very odd place.... and not in a good way. What was I missing? I do like a good portion of the places on your list.
  16. The original Numero Uno and Due (down the street from Uno) is not the same garbage you get at the chain restaurants. It is definitely some of the best pizza in Chicago and the country. For thin crust pizza, I recommend Pat's Pizza on Sheffield. As far as things to do... you most definitely need to hit one of the many Chicago clubs for music one night. The short list would be Schubas, Double Door or the Hideout.
  17. Mine is HEAVILY used (don't really leave the house without it), and it's 3 years old. Gary's point is valid but there is really no reason that they couldn't last 5 years or more. I was planning on getting a new one this year. I have everything on 2 hard drives as back-up though.
  18. The 30G and 80GB come with really vivid video which is a plus. I have a 20GB and it's filled up with about 4800 songs. I use an iTrip and have had very few problems during travel. You will hit spots where the radio frequency is tough to adjust. A spare cd or three will fix that problem. Optimally, you want an audio jack for your iPod. Depending on the year of your car, they can be installed fairly inexpensively.
  19. I'll like Arcade Fire more if Win plays naked. That is the sign of a truly brilliant indie artist.
