  1. It is a very decent set, but Jeff seems a bit off. Maybe he's just not coming through the soundboard well.
  2. This is a really mellow set so far....let's see if Nels shreds on the end of SWTS.
  3. I have a T amp and B&W bookshelf speakers on my desk, it sounds pretty darn good for a webcast.
  4. I'm probably in a minority of 1, but I'm pulling for some A.M. tunes tonight. Dash 7 maybe? Blue Eyed Soul?
  5. Yeah......................good stream, glitch free. Sunken Treasure.
  6. This is a pretty good interview.
  7. this is gonna be a Hummer of a thread.
  8. I just meant I don't think the guys in the band are sitting around scheming up new ways to flog SBS to new audiences...it's a management thing. The last tv performance I saw them give was pretty boring by most any non-rabid-wilco-fan measure. (Either Way on the Tonight Show, I think it was)
  9. Nels is such a punk ass.
  10. I agree....but I also don't think the band cares that much about winning new fans with these 'opportunities'. They do it for the music, and for us.
  11. Spiders, I guess. Or maybe The Late Greats, if I could play like Nels.
  12. I would think the show could pick up the phone to Tony M and just ask for the label's and band's permission? There's plenty of "compensation" in the goodwill advertising for a band like Wilco. My guess would be the writers drew straws for which semi-cool/obscure band to include. Or maybe they picked three and went with the one who's management gave them the least resistance? The whole MBA conspiracy thing was pretty funny to read though. Or I'm jusy hopelessly naive.
  13. He does, apart from a predisposition to Armani suits. Anyway, he was robbed of his life's savings. No one wants to contemplate going back to work in their 70's....just to maintain a simple lifestyle is pretty damn expensive in LA. I think Cohen also owns a home in Montreal. And who knows how many people he looks after. I think it was a wake up call for LC, maybe his life balance was a bit skewed to the fairy dust side of Zen Bhuddism for a few years there. He's a worker in song, but he's also a street-smart veteran of the music business, and no pushover. The whole thing would be hard t
  14. Reminds me of that Dylan spoof where he says 'when a song comes on the radio, I'm not really sure if it's mine or not. But it probably is.' (link) Anyway...congrats, and sorry for the slight thread hijack.
  15. Thinking about Ledger's performance in I'm Not There, I'm pretty impressed. He did most of the scenes wearing these big sunglasses, and still managed to convey Dylan's muted emotional turmoil during his divorcing Sara period.
  16. If metal heads respected Wilco, I'd have (even) fewer brain cells. Or summat.
  17. Pretty weird that he offed himself on the day of the Oscar nominations....was he expecting to be nominated?
  18. Dear Jesus, is it manifest destiny for the Pats to have a perfect season? Ummm. What I really need to know is whether to take the spread.
  19. Hey is it just me, or have others been left behind by the band's evolution? I'm fairly recent to MMJ.....really like the first couple of records - At Dawn in particular is a masterpiece IMO. After that they seem to start sounding like every other band. Maybe I need to give some of the others another chance.
  20. The scenes seemed to be set in the civil war era, and I related this to Dylan's well known fascination with early newspapers and American history and poetry - from which a considerable part of his songwriting is cribbed. The connecting theme was of "not belonging", thus the Gere character eventually hops on the same freight train. I really liked those scenes, though I can't really explain why. This part of the film may have been depicting a dream. Yep.....and for those of us who have been through it, that's exactly what it feels like.
  21. I thought that, while far from perfect, the film was a great achievement. It feels like a direct extension of Dylan's attitudes toward the media and toward his audience. People who like things to fit nice and linear in a little box will be infuriated. Those who get that he's 'not there' will appreciate it for what it is. A raucous mess of a story, full of contradictions, dead ends, and unlikely humor. I loved it. Those still looking for "insights" into the artist should keep looking. To be fair, I wasn't very impressed by the first act, when it seemed like this would be a spoof on No D
