  1. Famous Blue Raincoat is a classic but maybe a bit of a downer vibe for a wedding. Maybe for the pathetic last dance when all the guests who could leave under their own power are already gone. Instead I'd throw in First We Take Manhattan, and Chelsea Hotel (Rufus Wainwright's version kicks ass). Make sure to include Tom Waits' Downtown Train, I would also throw in Dylan's Positively 4th Street and Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (also Visions Of Johana, Desolation Row) and Nas' Represent!. Maybe some Biggie and Fugees too.
  2. Do it man. Then you can get front row and shout at Tweedy between songs, "I AM YOUR FACE!?!" while pointing at your tattoo. Yeah, that's the ticket.
  3. I'll take another angle. I think pot/hash is pretty damn dangerous; it's very accessible, very conducive to experimentation, it's generally viewed as a mild narcotic, very often viewed as less dangerous than alcohol - which is something I would take with a large grain of salt. It's a drug most kids have done by the time they're 13 or 14, there isn't much fear of it. Pot is also easy to grow in your house. It is carcinogenic, and is known to greatly increase onset of depression later in life, especially if you consume a lot in your youth. I don't know that many people who fucked up their
  4. Dats da question, Jimmy! (I think it depends on the quantity involved......certainly coke is more habit-forming)
  5. Something hasn't been right with her for a long time.

    Wilco vs BP

Shame on BP - Lisa Simpson and Wilco fans unite to save Lake Springfield!! oh...sorry. Just got home from seeing The Simpsons Movie.
  7. Apparently it'll be in the infield, "pretty close to home plate". I guess that means it might take the space between home plate and the mound, with probably six sections of field seats, and (my guess) only sections 110-120 of the stands occupied by humans. HTH
  8. In music and memory formation, silence is golden, researchers say Last Updated: Friday, August 3, 2007 | 3:16 PM ET CBC News Researchers at Stanford and McGill universities say they have learned more about how memories are catalogued, by studying brain activity as people listen to unfamiliar symphonies with gaps between movements. When the music stops, brain scans register a burst of activity, apparently drawing a line between one musical event and another, Daniel Levitin, a co-author of the study, told CBC News Online on Friday. "Usually you associate brain activity with something going
  9. Beck never fails to impress me. Nice idea too.
  10. /Make them drink more shots, faster. /Play it loud enough to drown out all hope of conversation. /Just get new friends.
  11. Looks like the usual suspects are out of stock now....maybe try some Euro vendors. On GEMM a few German sellers list it in stock but the price is in the $40 range. Can probably do better with a bit of hunting.
  12. +1 It's such an honest, tender song. One of Jeff's most Lennon-like compositions.
  13. Yes, I just meant that we ("we", the west) have developed the language and categorizations of music according to what was normal (and "alien") to us. Most Asian societies have now accepted it, just as they've accepted the 'universality' of English.
  14. Not even aliens, but Asians. Isn't music theory another form of elitism or attempt to codify the predominant language of expression in favor of the west? It seems like it. Minor chords might not be sad if you grew up in a Tibetan monastery.

    best solo

Many many nice solos on SBS, but Side With The Seeds is the most inspired.
  16. No, I suppose not. FOX was the source quoted and the OP is I believe from N.Europe so I was just making a general observation. I wasn't really sure why he even posted this. Or why I felt compelled to respond. In Canada the stories of missing women receive occasional attention...sometimes. It's a national disgrace as far as I'm concerned. Missing native Indian women in particular receive almost no media attention.
  17. Sadly, this sort of thing happens daily to women in the sex trade. I suppose only FAUX News would turn this into a lurid tale of sensational intrigue.
  18. For What It's Worth Biko If I Had A Rocket Launcher
  19. Just proves there's no "right" answer, it depends on the individual. For me, lessons always made me feel stupid. Noodling around on my own and figuring out how to play something gave me confidence. Not that it was justified. lol
  20. Kinda inclined to agree with GP on this. You either outgrow and leave behind your music teacher(s), or, at best, you eventually become one yourself - teaching theory to those who "might" have the gift.
  21. So how about it then...? New forum 1: Box Full Of Letters QA/Staging Area (weekly poll with some admin tweaking) New forum 2: Box Full Of Letters --> post 2-3 questions a week for Wilco band members here. Limited access to this forum (i.e. registered members can view it, band members could post, or more likely, admins could post their replies for them) Could this work?
