  1. Looks like another nice setlist--thanks for the quick reporting.
  2. Same here, except I hit Mignonette before the Gleams. Either way, Emotionalism will hook you. I felt the same way after seeing them live for the first time last summer. They are effing spectacular live! I can't believe that with the ridiculous tour schedule this summer, I won't hit any. They're in the midwest when we're in Canada. I swear to God our trip to Canada is during some of the coolest summer events.
  3. This one http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=39943
  4. Another post on FB: Champaign-Urbana is celebrating the music of the TLA, et al era this weekend with a reunion and all of his former TLA band mates - as well as LeRoy Bach and other close friends - met this afternoon at my house for a BBQ-turned-wake for our friend. Ed Burch phoned from Austin as well as Jonathan Pines (who apparently had been working with Jay finishing up a number of recordings of late). It is a very sad day in C-U.
  5. Alone Magazine Called Sunset More Like The Moon
  6. Synthesizer Patel? I like it.
  7. Current theory: "synthesize(?) up our tale" (NAPE)
  8. Didn't you forget the obligatory "out of the ashes of alt country rockers Uncle Tupelo"? If I had a nickel...
  9. Ah, yes. The sausage races. I wish I had known there were special guests in the sausages that night--I would watched more closely from my seat vs. the kids play area. I can't help but root for the poor chorizo, underdog that he is. Laurie, let's see the poster! So glad you had a fabulous time. I look forward to hearing more about it.
  10. Hmm. I hear "wings." I listened to the live version from Lolla and also heard "wings" there. Not only does the meaning work (obviously), but it works well up against "separate."
  11. Have you seen Oscar?
  12. Come on, I've been working hard to ignore the dick. (lolz? Oh, nope.)
  13. It really sounds like "synthesizer" on both the album and 7WC versions, and damn if the 7WC version doesn't sound like "synthesizer patel." That would be incredibly random...unless, you know, listening to Synthesizer Patel is the equivalent of a long, heavy hell?
  14. I love the melody and harmonies. The song gets stronger as it progresses, and I like it more each time I listen. Then again, I think You & I is beautiful as well. Like other posters, Everlasting Everything is my least favorite on the album right now.
  15. Poor Places I'm Always In Love You Are My Face
  16. I hear "goal," but I'm annoying like that. I do think "goal" works well with the rest of the line: "The goal as I was told was a place where my body could be laid." Isn't he saying long, heavy hell? The other line: "Super-size it by 10"? Found that elsewhere, and now I can hear it.
  17. I'm also a fan of I'll Fight and not a fan of On and On and On. I don't hear it.
  18. I'm on my second listen this evening, and I have no fancy or complex things to say--I just love it. I'm not a music connoisseur, and I don't have comparisons to make from one album to another. I love it because I find it interesting and exciting and beautiful. Some of my favorites are One Wing and You & I. On One Wing, the arrangements, the keys, the vocals... they all slay me. I liked it immediately when I first heard it live in Indy last summer, and I love it even more now. As for You and I, I think this song is alluring. The lyrics make it anything but your typical love song, an
