  4. agree about makes no difference & danko ... just a devastating vocal and brilliant song ... an all-time favorite of mine i always thought the stampeding cattle line was really interesting in that it has nothing to do with anything else in the song, it just sets the song somewhere in the distant past an odd device but it works beautifully & really gives the song a timeless quality
  5. it's funny how if i hear a wilco song or any song by a band i love out and about i'll stay and listen to the whole thing, even though i can just go listen in my car
  6. grew up with mott love 'em love 'em love 'em but can never keep track of which record is mott and which is the hoople the one with marionette ... that's a great record

  9. yeah, i was too young to totally appreciate exactly how legendary those men were, but i kind of had an inkling. and, cryptique ... i've thought about that since ... what legends were on that stage that night that i just had no clue about ... would love to know who was in both touring bands back then
  10. i think it was in 1979, my sophomore year in college, i was on the committee that booked concerts on campus. that spring, our big show was muddy waters with the james cotton blues band opening as we were setting up the stage, most of the guys from both bands arrived and were hanging out with us. i was talking to cotton's piano player, who was playing some dazzling stuff just goofing around a few hours before the show started i told him how amazing his playing was, and he laughed and said, "hey, i'm nobody -- that's the guy you want to talk to, over there." he pointed to muddy's piano pla

  13. my favorite has always been the intro to papa was a rolling stone by the temptations i never want the actual song to start
  14. how about J.C.R. Licklider he was the MIT professor in the 1960s who envisioned a network of interconnected computers around the world where people could communicate with each other and share information. he urged scientists to pursue his vision and next thing you know, we're all on via chicago, arguing about whether john mayer is a talentless hack or a gifted musician whose lyrics need refinement
  15. i've often thought Black Coffee in Bed might be the best song ever
  16. mainly hot college chicks i think and their asshole sideways-yankees-cap-wearing boyfriends so yeah, people i don't interact much with either!
  17. Mayer is a hulking pile of steaming vomit and I can't be convinced otherwise, no matter how many licks he can play on the guitar.
  18. i think he has skill at playing correct notes if you want to call that talent, that's fine, you win
  19. I mean, yeah, he's a skilled guitar player he can play the notes he wants to play but really that's irrelevant to the discussion when i hear his music, i think, "holy SHIT ... this guy sucks."
