he said "I Love Punk Rock... and I was the first" it was fairly tongue in cheek and he was smirking while he said it, but even despite that, it could easily be argued in Lou's favor imo. the Tribute was a lot of fun. MMJ, Dr. Dog, YLT, Thurston Moore, Joseph Arthur, Moby (w/ Lou), etc. as for his thoughts on mp3s, relating to the quality issues... i agree with Lou 100%. just because MOST people can't tell the difference between 256kbps and CD quality, doesn't mean I want to accept or pay for lesser quality. I will never ever ever ever EVER pay for a product that is inferior quality as

lineup so far isn't very great, BUT... seeing PE do all of It Takes A Nation of Millions would be off the hizzzzzay, and M. Ward ain't too bad either

not feeling this full length too much to be honest... the EP's were solid enough. it's not bad, just not great either. lotta the tracks sound very similar the singer reminds me of Colin Meloy a bit at times on here, weird.

Liz, Justin had to cancel his opening slot tonight due to the bad weather too :/ he's absolutely fantastic. have seen him a half dozen times now since October (yes i'm a bit obsessed ), and he never fails to disappoint. I'm even contemplating that Fargo show, but i think i'm gonna just do the 2 St. Paul shows and maybe Duluth
-
god i better get into their show on Tue night at the Parish

i didn't get into the last one whatsoever, but loving this one. might be my fave of his solo albums after all is said and done.

their last 3 albums are some of their most accessible stuff, and imo, Murray Street and Rather Ripped are up there with their best stuff for the most part, so i'd say maybe check those out first, then go backwards.
-
indeed! seeing them pretty soon, have heard they are fantastic live
-
they added a 2nd show even

^^ that's my exact thought, is that there's nothing quite as instantly catchy as the Loon, but i'm already picking out some great melodies i missed on the first 2-3 listens i think it shows a ton of growth from the first one. they were just a struggling local Mpls band starting out when they made that album, this shows a lot more confidence.

i'm liking it a lot too, but not too big on Fridmann's overblown compression/production on a handful of tracks (Headshock especially) musically it definitely blows the first album away

Metro (chicago venue) nixes Ticketmaster
solace replied to Duck-Billed Catechist's topic in Someone Else's Song
they aren't, they're all indepedent of one another (other than the Hennepin Theater trust (which includes 3 diff theaters). the local promoters here forced Clear Channel out of town about 2-3 years ago. sure Ticketmaster still sells tickets for about 80% of bigger shows in town, but they don't have an exclusivity deal, you can buy tickets from the box offices sans any TM fees for every single venue in town that sells through TM. Chicago has Jam Productions and Billions... they will do just fine. the Metro, like First Ave, has the history and loyalty that it doesn't really matter. -
http://www.tapesntapes.com/preview the leaked version is pretty identical to the stream... so it's just Fridmann's crazy production/mixing, ah well. I think once i get past that (it's only really bad on 1 or 2 songs), the songs themselves are SUPER strong. btw that preview will only be up until tomorrow.

oh i dunno about that... the Twin Cities is a good example of how you can still attract great bands without Clear Channel/Live Nation/Ticketmaster ruling the city -
musically it's great... i'd say better than The Loon, but the rip that leaked is awful (unless it's actually like that, if in which case, once again, fuck Dave Fridmann

Dayton did go to Obama according to the map on the ny times
