i don't think it's "weak" either, but if i had to pick my least favorite, it'd probably fall just behind Weird Tales (which is an amazing album, so there ya go) it's def their most rockin' record, but i can see how some might consider it bland... then again, you and I are both big Jayhawks fans, so we're more than fine w/ Gary's great contributions

yeah, that's the thing with this one, if you hadn't told me better, i would have guessed this record came out anytime between 1990 and 1994. it doesn't have that reunion feel whatsoever for me, it feels totally natural.

there was talk of this EP last fall, so glad to see it's actually scheduled to come out and wasn't just talk and while the last one is their weakest, it was still a great batch of Big Star inspired power pop tracks.

looking back, Adore wasn't nearly as bad as i felt when it first came out, there's at least 4-5 amazing songs on there, but i still hated the overall sound and style of it, and it only lead to much worse things w/ Machina. Zwan was decent, but they had way better songs than actually made the record.

there's just really great and catchy melodies galore. even on first listen there were 3-4 songs stuck in my head, and by the 2nd and 3rd listens, a few that hadn't got in my head earlier did. the only song that i'm a bit so-so on right now is "I Got Lost", which is a very cool acoustic/sparse sounding track, but it'd be better served as the last song imo. it reminds me of Joseph Arthur.

had they stopped at MCIS, or even Adore (still a downfall from those first few records, but not nearly as bad as Machina), they'd be regarded much higher in my book
-
glad you had your expectations low... myself, i had little to no expectations going in, and while that's probably helped my being so open to this and loving it, it's REALLY REALLY good, so i think i may have been impressed even with some higher expectations. i hope you feel somewhat similiarly

his solo album was one of the worst things i've ever heard...

Zwan 2.0

just finished it. while it certainly mellows out in spots (and even the mellower songs are still awesome), the opening 3 songs totally hook you in right away. this really wouldn't have sounded that outta place in '93 at all... Almost Ready = totally Husker Du. i can even picture Mould singing it. it's got no shortage of great hooks either (Crumble, This Is All I Came To Do, Been There All The Time, We're Not Alone, What If I Knew) if they can pull it off and sound this authentic, i definitely hope the Pixies give it a shot at least.

^^ i don't even like that record much, but i bought it on vinyl

Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond edit: HOLY MOTHER OF JESUS THIS IS FUCKING KICKING MY ASS it's like they never left... this is the type of guitar album i've been waiting on someone to put out for the last few years now. Built To Spill do well, but damn... hope the rest is this strong. the guitar solo on the end of track 3, Pick Me Up just melted my face off.

good for him to branch out, but the results aren't so great

the new RJD2 is pretty bad imo.. while the last didn't touch Deadringer for me, compared to this new one it's pretty great great cover art at least
-
that's a really nice compilation but my god that album cover is horrendous
-
this is pretty good stuff...
-
there will be day of show tickets. heck there were 50 a night for the Church shows last week.
-
^^ lot better than Axes they might open some of the Euro Arcade Fire shows, Beirut as well.
-
ah, i was referring to the full show, my bad
-
all 3 or 4 of them?
-
it was pretty obvious he wasn't actually...
-
it wasn't his best vocal performance ever, but how anyone could watch/listen to that last night and claim he can't sing, is beyond me...

exactly
