  1. Cate Le Bon is playing at Schuba's tonight. And I am going to miss her.
  2. I know the song well -- the title track: "MacDougal Blues". In that song, it works really well, I think. A nod and a wink.
  3. My son's been playing about 2.5 years. His teacher focuses on whatever kind of music he wants to learn. For his last recital, he played "Some Nights" by Fun. Although, the bulk of his instruction is based upon the Suzuki method and he is working his way through those books. Right now my son is working on the theme from "The Pink Panther" and a Bach piece.
  4. Without a doubt. But some are just so particularly awful that they jump out at you. I guess that is what this thread is supposed to be about.
  5. "I am the killer of people/You look like a meatball" Jane's Addiction - "Ted, Just Admit It" (Okay, so that one is kinda so awful that it's amazing. Still...)
  6. I love this. At about 6:15 Skip Bayless turns into Ron Burgandy. And, by the way, I love Richard Sherman.
  7. When the horn comes from out of nowhere in "For No One".
  8. Oh, and another one: Blue Ruin Australian band with Phil Calvert -- the drummer from The Birthday Party, in his post-TBP days. To me, they sound like The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, if that band really MEANT it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P1QdS2-0LE
  9. This is Tom Anselimi, from © -- in his previous band. Another one that is not very well-known that I dig with a VERY BIG shovel!
  10. * Playlist full of Martin Newell EPs *
  11. Listening to Sea Change now (for the first time) and enjoying the hell out of it. I might start to care.
  12. I am really hoping to see her when she comes through Chicago, but I probably won't be able to.
  13. Peter Laughner A founding member of Pere Ubu, The Dead Boys, and Rocket From the Tombs. He killed himself before any of those bands could achieve any type of notoriety. A troubled, troubled soul. But also an incredible songwriter and stunning guitar player.
  14. My band's first album came out 10 years ago. That band is now pretty much just me, but I am playing a show to celebrate that first album's release, anyway. Details: http://www.facebook.com/events/1408956699348542/ Hope that some of you, locally will join me. There will also be a second band on the bill: the debut performance of Are We Not Men?, an all-female cover band from Oak Park.
  15. Or any of Marriott's numerous "COME ON, CHILDREN!" exclamations throughout his career.
