  1. Just acquired. Blues-based garage psych. All fuzz, all the time. And some pretty great melodies, to boot. Really digging this. RIYL: King Khan, White Stripes, Pretty Things, The Sonics
  2. Just heard a song from these guys at Turntable.fm and it blew me away. Anyone know anything about them? Is it worth shelling out import prices for the album, or can I just pick up the singles collection? Here's the AMG writeup for what appears to be their only album: Anyone?
  3. I forgot one of the best, if not THE best! Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham (opening for Nick Lowe) Went to see one of my favorite songwriters and would up seeing a national treasure before Nick even hit the stage!
  4. I saw Cornershop a few times and, as much as I love their albums, they have to be one of the most BORING live acts that I have ever seen. So disappointing. Every single time (maybe 3 or 4 times). They were even boring when I saw them in a tiny little record store. Now that takes genuine, deep-down... something. Were they actually good/exciting when you saw them, or did you include them on your list just because you like them?
  5. Just saw this in the theater and I really, really enjoyed it. A good story, well-acted, and effective 3-D. 7/10 I've never seen the original, but now I really want to.
  6. I thought that we did this topic somewhere, sometime before, but I can't seem to find it. So, that said, let's start over. Who are the best/your favorite bands that you saw as openers for somebody else? And who did they open for? Uncle Tupelo (opening for fIREHOSE) Pulp (opening for Blur) Pearl Jam (opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers) The Pogues (opening for Violent Femmes) Mojo Nixon and Skid Roeper (opening for Violent Femmes) Stereolab (opening for Tortise) Tortise (opening for Stereolab) M.O.T.O. (opening for Falstaff) Joe Pug (opening for Aimee Mann) Jim O'Rourke (opening for Tom Zé) T-P
  7. New 4- song EP. Just downloaded it, and it is exactly what I expected. Homespun BritPop in the same vein as Robyn Hitchcock. Just good songwriting and clever wordplay. Love it.
  8. Looks like Martin has just released a new 4-song EP. He's selling it for $5 (US) from his web site. (Click the pic).
  9. One of my favorite Nick songs. The piano on there kills, as does the bass.
  10. Oh, and I remember that I already posted THIS THREAD. I just wanted to make something for posting YouTubes and such.
  11. Just because I love this guy and want you all to hear him, too. No doubt there are at least one or two other fans out there, too. So, let's hear it for the Wildman of Wivenhoe!!! Recommended for fans of Robyn Hitchcock, The Kinks, Syd Barrett, XTC, etc...
  12. Thanks for the info! I will check out both of those records and that label. My np for the day:
  13. Is Brian the former guitar player of Stump the Host? If so, he is an insanely good guitar player and I have to check this out.
  14. Gotten about halfway through the creation of my first solo album. Just mixing to go.
  15. Sounds like a total disaster. So disappointing, because a real, good comeback record from Sly would be really, really welcome. Damn. As most of it are remakes, I already have no interest. But, I have to admit, that I will at least check out the new songs, just to see if there is anything there, despite what STE said in the following review.:
  16. I thought of one of these today, so I thought that I would revive what had turned into a pretty cool thread. Blur at the Vic, Chicago (1995 Parklife tour), with opening act: Pulp. Would've sold out Wembley over in the UK, several times over around that time. But I got to see this killer show at the relatively small (1500-cap.) theater.
