  1. A boutique label (partially owned/run by Bob Mould) that put out some pretty cool little things. In fact, it was the 45 of "Speeding Motorcycle" (later reissued in a longer version on Genius + Yo La Tengo) that was out on this label that was my first exposure to Daniel Johnston. Here is a link to what I believe to be a semi-complete discography: http://www.discogs.com/label/Singles%20Only%20Label Really want those R. Stevie Moore, Cocktails, and Peter Laughner 7"s. And, a CD/digital box set of all of the label's releases would be something really cool. I would absolutely pick that up.
  2. Very bizarre 7" DL available here: http://psychedelicatessen.blogspot.com/2008/10/punk-single-of-week-dogbowl.html

  6. A description of this great, dark blues band from Down Under. This comes from The Trouser Press:
  7. RAPHAEL SAADIQ!!! Tonight, Park West, Chicago (with Quadron)
  8. Serious writer's block. I do have to tweak the lyrics a little. And the arrangement will probably need some fine tuning. But this was a video that I made of me playing this very simple little Buck Owens-type tune on the night that I wrote it -- less than an hour after I jotted down the last note on a scrap of paper that I found laying around on my night stand. Maybe I'll record it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ON9uKHgOIM Hope that you like it. Let me know.
  9. When the opening act blows me away. And this one: Yeah, that's a good one. I have a magnolia tree in my front yard and, for the 2 weeks or so that it's in-bloom, I love walking out my front door every morning, just to get a whiff of that tree!
  10. I picked this up over the weekend, based upon the rec. of a trusted record store employee. First listen: not so hot. I mean, the sound of the thing is where it should be: nice old-school soul sound a la Bill Withers. But the lyrics (way too easily understood) are forced, kinda trite, and the kind of thing that can ruin an otherwise cool song. As evidenced by this tune, in particular: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR6oYX1D-0w Second listen: I didn't mind the lyrical content quite so much and am starting to enjoy the album a little more, if not as much as I wish that I did. I'm curious to g
  11. Just found out that these are the guys that are opening for Raphael Saadiq on the 3rd at the Park West. The videos I checked out: (and another one, which the board won't let me post.) Sound pretty cool. Any of y'all know anything else about these guys (women)? I think that I will get there early to check them out, but more info is appreciated. Thanks!
  12. Rest in peace. The funeral will not be televised.
  13. Is that "California Girls" by Magnetic Fields?
  14. That's TERRIBLE!!! I am totally going to use it!
