  1. If you can make it out. It's the show where we say goodbye to my label.
  2. This song is mesmerizing. Great arrangement, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyJgdIXej0A I know that Gilberto Gil did a version of it on one of his albums, too. But this version is just different. At first it appears to be kinda new age-y, but keep listening and the arrangement draws you in.
  3. And here is a short documentary about the band, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf0UQz8g0HA
  4. Was just thinking about these guys again today and wanted to rave again. I remembered this thread and, well... BUMP! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K74GSl3T7tQ
  5. Fred Schneider on "The Power of Pussy" by Bongwater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzT_BMB5ZRM Truly inspired. (sorry for the skipping. not sure who made this one and work won't let me access the other video on YouTube. And, I don't want to post it if it's really nasty.)
  6. I attend a Unitarian Universalist church. For those of you unfamiliar with the denomination, it is a humanist church. Our congregation, in particular, has a pastor that is hard left-leaning, and particularly humanist. He quotes Emerson and Thoreau more than any Bible, Torah, or Koran. In fact, his sermon last week was almost entirely based upon Walden. Funny thing is, upon reading Thoreau's other influential writing -"Civil Disobedience" - you come to realize that he was a pretty hardcore Libertarian. Ironic.
  7. It's on their Hold Me Up record. I was looking for it at YouTube, but there's nothing there. I'll see if I can dig it up for you somewhere else. EDIT: Here is at least a sample, for the time being: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://s0.ilike.com/play%23Goo%2BGoo%2BDolls:Never%2BTake%2BThe%2BPlace%2BOf%2BYour%2BMan:259764:m5364531&sa=X&ei=CHmsTMfAJoH88Aakt_mrCA&ved=0CBMQ0wQoADAA&usg=AFQjCNFOWdRKfQidhA5CaozXHuaEJkTGZg
  8. Just turned 40, myself. I think that, at this board, as opposed to other indie/underground/hipster music boards, you are right around average. Kinda nice for a change, no?
  9. Artifice: Looking at your selections for today, if you are not familiar with that Goo Goo Dolls record that I have with me today, you really should hear it. Simply a great, punky power pop record. As opposed to the sappy powerless PAP they're doing today.
  10. The Incredible Lance Diamond on Goo Goo Doll's cover of "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"
  11. Or any of Bernie Worrell's keys, or Adrian Belew's guitar on some of those other records.
  12. Yup. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEt-IaRbcVY Wait until right near the end. I love how nobody mentions anything about her, or who she is. Just another face in the crowd. But we know.
  13. Say baby doyawannalaydownwithme? Say baby doyawannalaydownbyMYside? SAY BABY!!! EDIT: I cannot believe that nobody has yet mentioned Eric Clapton's solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
  14. That TDI thing just makes me smile. And, mj: I was thinking more of songs that were written specifically for use as the show's theme.
  15. Jerry Garcia's pedal steel playing on CSN's "Teach Your Children"
  16. Oh, and I would also like to see: The Decline of Western Civilization (Penelope Spheeris) on that list.
  17. These are best DEBUT films (see topic title). What is Altman's first film? That Cold Day in the Park (1969) according to IMDB. Is it any good? Worthy of inclusion on this list? I've seen quite a few films, but not as many as I would like. And, how about: The Kid (Charlie Chaplin)?
  18. These are best DEBUT films (see topic title). What is Altman's first film? That Cold Day in the Park (1969) according to IMDB. Is it any good? Worthy of inclusion on this list? I've seen quite a few films, but not as many as I would like.
  19. I love this movie. There is so much going on. Yeah, it is a bit derivative of Altman, with the overlapping stories and whatnot, but something about it hits me.
  20. The ones that I've bolded I think are pretty much inarguable, as far as being worthy of inclusion. Debate the rest.
  21. "Streets of Bakersfield" - Dwight Yoakam with Buck Owens "Where the Wild Roses Grow" - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds w/ Kylie Minogue
  22. "Groove is in the Heart" - Deee-Lite with Bootsy Collins and Q-Tip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4D1HSL7P98 And, do duets count? "Under Pressure" - Queen with David Bowie "A Fairytale of New York" - The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl
  23. I love this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSCuTEOQkho Oh, and the new Hawaii-5-0 does not count, because that is still an old theme. We all know that one, already.
