  1. I Miss the Lounge Ax Yeah, I started it, but only because nobody else did. I'm surprised at that. Anyway... if you have pics and videos and memories to post about, I thought it would be a cool place to have for those of us old enough who knew, loved, and miss, Julia's and Sue's place. I know that I do. And I know that I'm not the only one. (Sue: I know that you read and occasionally post here. So, if you see this: thank you for all those years of great shows. Y'all are missed. A lot. Happy Holidays.)
  2. Reason #10,004 why the internet is a cool thing.
  3. GOT IT! Thanks so much! (And it wasn't a lo-fi kinda popping, it was a screwed-up disc kinda popping. But that's all good now!)
  4. I have a copy of that Peter Laughner album, am listening now, and have found that, on the last half of the album, the sound starts to break up -- becomes a lot of static, as if maybe it's being played through blown speakers. It's not a good sound. I have played it on several systems, tried ripping it to mp3, and it still has the same problem. I really want to own a GOOD copy of this amazing disc. Can anyone help me? I've only seen it available used at Amazon and other sites for $40 to $150 a copy; I can't do that.
  5. Matt Caterer works at a record store in Chicago and I met him there last year. He told me then that they were working on a new record; glad to hear that it's a good one. He was a pretty nice guy and I like the band.
  6. I was born in 1970, so for me it would look something like: Up Up and Away - The 5th Dimension Rocky Mountain High - John Denver Fly Like an Eagle - Steve Miller The Gambler - Kenny Rogers Feels So Good - Chuck Mangione Mandy - Barry Manilow Star Wars Theme - John Williams Stayin' Alive - The Bee Gees To Much Time On My Hands - Styx Games People Play - The Alan Parsons Project Quickly followed in about 1980, or so with: Rock and Roll High School - The Ramones which helped to turn it all around for me!
  7. Thanks for listening, Moss. And thanks for your comments. And yeah, that is true. Hard to see yourself as others see you, but I guess that I would agree with you were I not me. Sorry about that.
  8. Various Artists - The Birmingham Sound: The Soul Of Neil Hemphill (Vol. 1) Peter Laughner - Take the Guitar Player For a Ride The Hollies - 30th Anniversary Collection The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
  9. So... nobody listened to it? I'm nowhere on the recording... it's just my song.
  10. It's a fairly faithful, but very cleanly recorded version of a little lo-fi ditty that was at the end of my album. Here is is: Jesse Adams - The Yummy Song I like it. What do you think?
  11. Nope, but I am LOVING The Sounds Of Our Time, and I know that the new one is put together by the same folks who put together Sounds.... Also got a rave at AllMusic.com: 4.5 Stars
  12. The Sounds Of Our Time was '07; but I think there was another comp that came out in '08 Point Of No Return Have you heard that one? EDIT: April 1, 2008 according to AllMusic.
  13. I'm in Chicago and I listen all the time. What's your buddy's wife's name?
  14. And what about the new Jim Ford compilation?
  15. if you heard this week they are having layoffs, etc. I could not survive my commute without this show. All they need (seriously) is like a buck a person. I just went nuts and gave $5 you can do it here http://www.thisamericanlife.org/
  16. Talking Heads - The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads Various Artists - Paisley Pop: Pye Psych and Other Colours (1966-1969) Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! Jim Ford - The Sounds Of Our Time
  17. I was thinking that this song would sound pretty good as a punk/bluegrass thing: "New Year's Eve" That's just a rough, live/solo recording. But, if you like the bare bones that you hear and want to have a little fun in the studio with me, let me know. I would love to meet up and figure out a way to get this done. That is all.
  18. Once again, you show me how much we are in-tune with one another, musically speaking. That original version of "Samson & Delilah" gives me chills.
  19. Caesaria Evora - Rogamar The Who - A Quick One Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island Brian Eno/John Cale - Wrong Way Up
  20. I am a long-time Weller fan, although there are several albums that I have to admit to not being too fond of. Anyway, how's this new one? Um... that's all.
  21. I saw UT live, about a month before No Depression came out, and then about a month before they broke up. So I think that I heard a lot of them. But, off-hand the only ones that I can remember off the top of my head are: Graveyard Shift Whiskey Bottle Chickamauga No Depression Gun (both with the band, and Jeff, solo... at a Wilco show) Still Be Around (Jay, solo... at a Son Volt show) That Day Factory Belt and a whole bunch more...
