  1. I've never seen Babe - Pig in the City, but I'm looking forward to when my boys are a little older - to watch it with them. I remember that Ebert went nuts over it, and I was impressed with his glowing review.
  2. this one's a good read too: http://io9.com/mad-max-fury-road-is-an-astonishing-work-of-art-1704715858
  3. I'd definitely request Far Away Eyes, with me singing alongside. That and 2,000 Light Years From Home. And definitely Starfucker. Oh, and Undercover of the Night And Monkey Man. OK, and Live with Me.
  4. But his are too long - "sidewhiskers" Van Buren's chops are pure.
  5. Best Presidents with facial hair: Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt. Best Presidential facial hair: Taft's stache, Van Buren's flared mutton chops
  6. I'm trying to figure out why itunes doesn't have the last three volumes (the last three Strand shows) for sale. They have everything else... Man - it's fun getting new shows.
  7. Splurged this weekend on a bunch of the Europe 72 volumes: 4/8: Wembley, London 4/14: Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen 4/24: Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf 4/26: Jahrhundert, Frankfurt 5/3: L'Olympia, Paris 5/10: Concertgebouw, Amsterdam 5/11: Civic Hall, Rotterdam Half way through the Copenhagen show (get most of my listening done on my commute to/from work). Really enjoying the shows so far, and I actually enjoy Looks Like Rain from both London and Copenhagen! Is Jerry playing a pedal steel for those? I think that's the difference for me (in enjoying these versions - not a fan of the song usually
  8. Thank you for reminding me. You saw it last night and you loved it, and you wholeheartedly recommend it. It's a white-knuckler. It's as if George Miller had test audiences watch the first two films, and then the results came back as: Well, sir, they really loved the car chase stuff, so make THAT the whole movie, if you can. But it's a lot more than just the car chase stuff. It's quite brilliant. It's one of the rare visually perfect tellings of a story that you could watch without sound, because the shots tell the story so well.
  9. That's Mader's Restaurant in Milwaukee, WI. I'm pretty sure BCS didn't film any scenes in Milwaukee.
  10. I think about 20. He was born in 47, and she was younger than my sister, but older than me, so she was prob born in 66 or 67.
  11. She was 2-3 years older than me. She was the 3rd out of 4 sisters. My two older sisters hung out with them. I remember that they owned some horses out in the country, and after they invited my sisters out to ride them, it's all my sisters were into. Horses this and horses that. I knew the family well - we always sheltered in their mud room while waiting for the school bus, and they were always involved in neighborhood shenanigans: kick the can, hide-n-seek, etc. I remember they had an Intellivision, which I thought was awesome, and they also had HBO. I got grounded after my parents found out I
  12. When I was a kid, I thought the "OK" hand-sign (thumb and index finger form a circle, other three fingers up) meant "wrong!", thanks to my father's humor. I think he might have gotten it from Laugh-In show (perhaps Arte Johnson?). Anyway - it caused confusion and arguments in grade school. A friend of mine who grew up in Boston said when she was a kid, due to her accent, thought the correct spelling of fart was "F.O.T."
  13. Nice. There's got to be room for Doors of Your Heart, or Hands Off... She's Mine. I'd like to hear Pete Townshend's cover of Save it for Later.
  14. solid. I just remembered my love for the song "Born to Hula"
  15. I just listened to a live Los Lobos cover of Politician last night. It was awesome.
  16. I was wondering about that 2nd tier comment. If Ray Davies is 2nd tier, who is 1st? That's quite something to say that Davies (or Townshend) doesn't quite make it to the top songwriting echelon. They're both just merely almost great?
  17. If it's last album = best album, I'll stick with Pixie's Trompe le Monde.
  18. Cool article. For me, Abbey Road just has that swan song feeling to it. Yes, Let it Be was released afterwards, and there was work done on Let it Be (by the Beatles, whether John was already gone, or participated at that point) after Abbey Road was released, but Abbey Road feels like a final goodbye, especially with The End. Plus, it has George Martin all over it, which is nice.
  19. Pixies, Trompe le Monde. (Indy Cindy doesn't count) Beatles, Abbey Road
  20. Sin City Hickory Wind Ooh Las Vegas In my hour of Darkness Lazy Days
