I'd like to see people list the first Wilco album they listened to alongside their lists. I'm betting that the people who discovered Wilco after Summerteeth or later are more often the ones who have AM and Being There ranked lower.

Any fans of The Shining here? If so, you should check out Room 237, a documentary that's on Netflix right now. It's about fanatics of The Shining, who have found "hidden" meanings throughout the film. The one regarding the Apollo 11 mission is especially fascinating. The documentary isn't about whether or not these theories hold any water, it's about that these people are nuts. The Shining holds a special place in my heart and mind. I was 11 or so when I originally saw it (or parts of it - I had to leave once the woman came out of the bathroom - way too much to handle...). I did not like

The Babadook was good. Well made, and smart. The Babadook is a menacing phantom from a kid's book - which turns up and haunts a recently widowed mother and her son. The horror hinges on the grieving process. Free on Netflix now - check it out. B+

Ha. Last night. my wife pointed that out to me, all excited. I said "you've never even seen the movie!" She replied that it was before her time (but now she's a fan of most of its stars). I told her that I tried to get her to watch it several times, but she hated it each time, and only lasted a few minutes each time. Sigh. Now, she's scooping me on the series, all excited.

I've never noticed Tales from the Crypt on the menu. No "old" series at all. Sorry, Fraggle Rock fans. Dang, I just noticed that IFC's The Birthday Boys was cancelled after two seasons (resulting from a search for the Larry Sanders show, which IFC had been airing - trying to determine if they still do). Funny show. Bob Odenkirk was Exec. Producer, and often appeared on it. Tenacious D is buried in the HBO On Demand menu, under "late night", then "comedy" - the rest of the options are stand-up. I don't know if that still holds, as I don't think the same menus exist on the new Xfinity C

The Larry Sanders show would be nice, speaking of Judd Apatow.

Speaking of reruns that I wish I had access to, HBO On Demand doesn't feature the show that's in your avatar. I don't remember if it was just called the Ricky Gervais show, or what. I think I've probably seen them all, but they'd be nice to watch at a moment's notice. Very hilarious stuff. Their travel show was great too.

I was initially intrigued by The Strain, just because of Guillermo Del Toro's involvement, but then I read some poor reviews from places I respect, so I never bothered. Plus, my wife would never be interested. The only time I get the TV to myself is if I stay up late on the weekends, which is rare (The little ones wake up at 7am regardless, so staying up late is its own risk/reward), but tonight I'm dedicated to staying up late to watch The Babadook, which I've been looking forward to for a while. Went to the Amy Schumer flick, Trainwreck, last night. It was OK. There were definitely some laughs (surprisingly, a lot of the funniest moments were from John Cena), but the last 1/3 of the movie dragged. B-

I remember an episode of Siskel & Ebert, and they were debating the merits of Scorsese's Casino. IIRC, Siskel gave it a thumbs down, because he thought it too derivative of Goodfellas. Ebert, (who always championed Scorsese, since the beginning) scoffed at him and asked him if this was someone else's movie, would he like it? And Siskel admitted that if it was anyone else's movie, it would be a great movie.

Zappa - Inca Roads, is the solo that melts my mind and gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I've always loved Zappas solos the most because they're little songs themselves - he definitely knows where he's going with the solo. Been listening to Dick's Pick Vol 28: 2/26/73 - Lincoln NE, and 2/26/73 - Salt Lake City, UT, a lot lately. Two great shows. I love them both, mainly for the first set covers and rockers, like Lincoln's: Don't Ease Me In, Loose Lucy, Big Railroad Blues, Big River, Greatest Story Ever Told, etc. Then there's the great Dark Star > Eyes. Salt Lake has one of the best Donna vocals that I can think of. Her harmony in Beat It On Down the Line is sublime. Again, the short first set songs are what I like this volume for: Mexicali Blues, They Love Each Other, Big River... Two very strong show

I'm really happy with Star Wars. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a Wilco album. SBS, as a matter of fact, was the last one I liked.

For me, to borrow a phrase from Zappa, it's the ability to "put eyebrows on it" Sheet music is cold. You can program a computer to play the notes. A good musician can bring something more to the composition.

For being a concert in '78, Estimated Prophet is the only "new" song on the setlist. I think the long Rhythm Devils was a newish thing for that tour. But aside from Estimated>Eyes, most of the rest of the setlist is from '72 and beyond.
