  1. Another thread! But, we may have already done that? Albums you hate by artists you love? I can't even weigh in on Thing Fish, because it was so awful I couldn't get all the way through it.
  2. Yes, there was a planned stage production, which never saw the light of day, and the Hustler piece was part of Zappa's promo.
  3. OK, then let's make neither statement. They both sound stupid, and are something only a politician would say. Mission Accomplished© Somehow we're less safe, thanks to Obama, even though the worst attack on US soil happened while "The Decider" was in office. Oh how the fear-mongers wail when a Dem is in office, yet bite their tongues when the GOP runs things.
  4. Shame that Hidalgo/Perez weren't mentioned in that 100 greatest songwriters list. They've written a lot of beautiful tunes.
  5. I tried watching 200 Motels a long time ago, and quickly lost interest. I also tried listening to Thing Fish, and didn't get far at all. Yesterday I was looking at the contents of the Old Masters Box Sets. I never purchased any of these - their price point was way too high for me as a teenager. Box 3 is definitely right in my wheel house. I'm much less interested in 1 and 2.
  6. Tonight Daniel Norris became the first ever AL pitcher to hit a regular season HR at Wrigley. If he does nothing else in his career, that's a pretty cool stat to own. Oh, and it was his first career at bat. Edit: I've also read that it's the first HR (WS and regular season) by an AL pitcher there. Not too many World Series have been played in Wrigley, so it should be easy to suss out.
  7. Same here - I've never liked his drumming, and always thought him a robot too. Vinnie Colaiuta is my favorite Zappa drummer. Here's my Zappa all-star band: Stunt Guitar: Steve Vai Rhythm guitar, vocals: Ray White Drums: Vinnie Colaiuta Keyboards: George Duke Percussion: Ruth Underwood Bass: Arthur Barrow sax, vocals, flute: Napoleon Murphy Brock
  8. That's what I was thinking too. Though I still love Joe's Garage. The bass and drums on that album are amazing. Great read, jff. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Get them all. Besides what you're already getting, By The Light of the Moon is excellent. This Time is overlooked. The Town and the City is great. The Ride, and Ride This are awesome too. It's all good. But, definitely go see them live any chance you get. They're a great live band.
  10. I've always loved Joe's Garage. The production is definitely stellar. But, that goes for most of Zappa's stuff.
  11. This time it was done completely by Apple, complete with links after each listing which will connect you directly with an opportunity to sign up for Apple Music.
  12. Damon Albarn Rogers & Hammerstein? Patty Hill / Mildred J. Hill
  13. I'm just worried about the riots when Taylor Swifts fans find out how low she is.
  14. Yes! Girl you thought he was a man, but he was a muffin!!
  15. I didn't know about that limitation on the upper deck tix. That's really lame. I like Sanders - he's my guy, but he'll never make it. I believe in the notion that you have to look the part. Sanders looks like he just woke up. I've resigned myself to the scenario that we're going to be looking at another Clinton v Bush election. Christ.
  16. True. I think there's been more released post-mortem than when he was alive. I haven't checked out any of that stuff. The ZFT charges too much!
  17. How so? I'm no fan of the White Sox (my inlaws are). But I've been to many games there. The stadium itself is fine - it's open, you can walk around, it has decent food options... The neighborhood on the other hand... There's nothing to do around there. You get there and get into the stadium, and when the game's over, you get the hell out.
  18. And... The can't do that on stage vol 2 that you have is great too. That's my favorite line-up. George Duke and Napoleon are hilarious together (I never thought Flo and Eddie were funny/useful at all) and Ruth Underwood is simply the best. Two more that I forgot about - both taken from his last tour (in 1988) are: Make a Jazz Noise Here, and The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. I think I listed maybe about a 1/3 of his catalog. You'll notice that a lot of the early releases are omitted. (Freak Out is definitely worth checking out, but the musicianship is definitely rough, compar
  19. My favorites, in chronological order are: We're Only In It For The Money Hot Rats Waka/Jawaka The Grand Wazoo Over-Nite Sensation Apostrophe Roxy & elsewhere One Size Fits All (his best, IMHO) Live in NY Sheik Yerbouti Joe's Garage I never really cared for much of The Mothers era. He really started to surround himself with first rate musicians in the early 70s. And his guitar playing really went through the stratosphere around Hot Rats, IMHO.
  20. And? Where do you rank it amongst his other films?
  21. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a658428/rod-stewart-discusses-his-wild-drinking-and-shagging-days-during-carpool-karaoke.html#~pkGlVyZZDdIz1c
  22. Get that crap out of my NHL thread!! Football seems to be the only sport that is the least affected by regionalism. That is, it wasn't just Pittsburgh and MN fans watching that game (as the rating # would seemingly agree with). This is what you can conclude: People will tune into a football game. Baseball sucks. Nobody watches the NHL. Basketball REALLY sucks. And, there is nothing more boring than a televised car race, including baseball.
  23. I've never voted in a primary, nor have I ever registered with a Party. Have been seriously contemplating registering as a Republican to vote for Trump in the primary.
