Watched "I am Big Bird" last night. Really lovely documentary.

Just kidding (kinda - it has everything "Zappa" in it, including Roy Estrada) I would cheat and play the whole Yellow Snow suite: Don't eat the yellow snow -> Nanook rubs it -> St. Alphonso's pancake breakfast -> Father O'Blivion Which really has everything: Ruth, complex music, it's funny, it's dirty.

My guilty pleasure is hate-watching any of the Housewives of OC/NY/NJ etc that my wife tapes. I'll usually be doing something else (reading or farting around on the ipad) while she's watching it, but inevitably I'll get sucked in. I know more about those shows than I care to admit.

OK, but would all that have prevented the shooting in Oregon (or any of the other recent mass shootings)? I don't think illegal gun ownership was an issue in any of those.

Well, of course every band is going to have outliers. I'm not going to play Lady Jane to give someone a sense of what the Stones are about. but of course Lady Jane represents a valid face of the Stones as much as Emotional Rescue does. But neither song is absolutely necessary to understand what the Stones are all about. That could be done with Brown Sugar or Midnight Rambler.

I've contemplated getting tix for their run of 4 shows at the City Winery in Chicago. But, two $75 tickets + dinner + babysitter = budget buster... Los Lobos tickets used to be so much cheaper.

So, what are your thoughts so far? I picked up a couple albums from itunes last night: A Token of His Extreme - which was a short show he recorded in 1974 for a TV special that never aired - some of which is featured on his Dub Room Special video. I've only listened to this once so far, but it's really really good. This is my favorite Zappa line-up. Great stuff. Zappa - Wazoo. I haven't listened to this one yet - it's a live recording of a big band he put together to play the stuff off of the Grand Wazoo. I've heard good things. Anyone else have this one?
