  1. I'll be at those dates as well, and Louisville and Red Rocks. Woohoo! I wonder if the Keys are going to be the opener for this whole tour? That would be ridiiiiiiiiiculous.
  2. Lots of bands list all three days of Lolla on their websites when they don't know (or can't disclose) the schedule yet. They won't be playing all three days.
  3. Did anyone catch them on Craig Ferguson last night? They did "Change Is Hard". Much better performance.
  4. The presale is on now; I just got my Chicago tickets.
  5. Niiiiice. Can't wait to see them again; wish they had a few more Chicago dates to list. No Code, I think you'll find that the more you listen to them, the less you get that Jim James vibe - although that's certainly the same first impression I got.
  6. I can see that. When you compare it to a sweet little number like "Look at You", it's going to sound a bit, well, goofy. The thing is, I think Jim is completely sincere with "Highly Suspicious". It's a celebration of the 80s, IMO.
  7. Yeah, she looked awfully deer/fembot-in-the-headlights during last night's performance. And that song's not one of my favorites; I think it makes her sound like a Patsy Cline ripoff, and her voice is honestly a lot better than what she displayed last night. I liked that camera angle they were using with both Zooey and Georgia, since they are two of my very favorite ladies Aren't She & Him playing the Newport Folk Festival?
  8. "Highly Suspicious" is SO much fun live, though. You'll laugh and shake your ass. It's good times. Who doesn't love a little Prince?? That Red Rocks date is killllllllling me. Their show with Bob there last summer was one of the best nights of my life.
  9. Got my Louisville tickets - see y'all there! Also, I'll go on record (ha) as saying I don't really care for the studio version of Evil Urges. It's SO much better live (but then, we could have guessed that).
  10. Yeah, I saw John at that Gary Louris show too! Funny. I'm really surprised to hear that they didn't want to grant an interview...seems like his management really dropped the ball on this tour. I enjoyed Justin Earle's set as well; wasn't sure what to expect, and it seems like he's gone out of his way a bit to differentiate himself from his dad, but it was really good. There was one ballad in particular that was just lovely and heartbreaking.
  11. Ah, sorry - I got confused by this sentence: We (John Boston and the Whiskey Bender crew) were able to do an interview... Anyway, small world! John's a nice guy. Looking forward to reading your piece!
  12. Those of you who have been to Waterfront Park before - what's it like? I'm trying to get an idea from the pictures on the site, but first person accounts are always better. I'll definitely be there. I love Louisville, and I LOVE the Jacket!
  13. True enough. When I first listened to them on MySpace I was bothered by how much Ian Felice sounds like Bob...but live, he's a completely different monster. Love those guys! Louie, you're not John Boston, are you? If so, I met you at the Felice Brothers show at Frontgate during SXSW! Heh. Small world, either way...
  14. I'm seriously considering the pilgrimage to Louisville. Love that town.
  15. Great to see the love for the Felice Brothers. I agree that their sound can be a bit derivative, but I think they're still growing and coming into their own. Their live shows are raucous beer-soaked events, and the very definition of a good time. They are a band I'll be keeping my eye on in the next year or so; I have a feeling they're going to go big.
  16. I agree - I think Gary is a very talented songwriter. Even his misses sound like hits. girlincognito, I feel like a Gary/Mark tour would certainly draw more people than either of them solo. Here's hoping!
  17. They're playing the Note next Thursday. I plan to check them out.
  18. I doubt it's written in stone that Wilco is playing on the 1st. Bands often list the first day of the festival on their websites because the schedule hasn't been published and/or finalized yet. That said, it seems pretty certain Radiohead will be playing Friday, and I could see Wilco "opening" for them. Gates open at 11 a.m. each day of the festival.
  19. Oh, that's very cool! Thanks for posting!
  20. Yeah, it was sparse. Gary sounded fantastic (his voice is one of my favorite voices of all time) but it was just strange seeing him with nary a Jayhawk to back him up (what's Marc Perlman up to these days, anyway?). The show just lacked...something, that feel-good energy that I always used to associate with a Jayhawks show. The new songs are good, and he played some Smog tunes, which were great, but overall I'd say the night just felt "off". My favorite part of the evening was the encore, when it was just Gary and his acoustic. I think he probably should have played two nights at Schubas
  21. Eeek, that doesn't bode well at all. Fortunately, bad ticket sales doesn't = bad show; I saw Os Mutantes on one of those two-for-one tickets at Metro, and that show was insane! I'm definitely looking forward to tonight's show. Gary's canceled his west coast dates due to low ticket sales; double eeek. There's a blog about it on his site. Good news from the blog, though - a Best of Golden Smog compilation coming out on Rhino this summer? I'll cross my fingers for some b-sides!
  22. Cool, thank you. I'm still not sure it's worth $70...
  23. Does anyone know how many members of the original band will be on this tour? I spoke with someone last night who was at one of those NYC gigs, and he said that while Sly was fried, the band was solid.
  24. Very true. I questioned the wisdom of their matching, all-black outfits during that set! And I'll agree most any band is better at their own gig than at a festival.
