FYI to those who are local and don't have tickets... the night of the White Stripes show the box office released some seats. If you're close enough it may be worth a ride to investigate.

It is, without question, the nicest seated venue in the Philadelphia area. It's like a 1/3rd scale Academy of Music with better acoustics and better sight lines.

I guess I haven't been there since the White Stripes show last summer. Seemed like they did a good business, but maybe that was only on show nights at the Grand? The show is listed as 7:00. Wilco could potentially be on as early as 8:00, probably no time for "fine dining".

The 821 Market Bistro is right across the street. It's pretty good for dinner and has a nice bar. And it's right across the street. The DC show from Monday is available for streaming from the All Songs Considered (NPR) website. Many of those pop up as free podcasts on iTunes too.

I hate the Indigo Girls version of "Romeo & Juliet". No that song doesn't beg to be screamed. Also Frank Sinatra butchers "Mrs. Robinson" and even removes the name Jesus, "We all love you more than you will know"

I know this is an old post but I'm just reading this thread now... Were you really concerned you might get stuck with those if it turned out you couldn't go?

I had multiple friends at Penn so I managed to get to a bunch of those shows. I also saw Shriekback at Houston Hall and The Bangles w/ the Hoodoo Gurus at Irvine Auditorium. They used to do these big "Spring Fling" shows. The only one I went to was a bizarre Hodge-Podge of acts (Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Divinyls, and the Psychedelic Furs) at the Civic Center in '83.

It was at 3rd and Brown. Diagonally across from where N. 3rd is now. The building is still there but like much of that neighborhood it looks like it's been fixed up. I don't remember any other shows occurring there besides the two I saw but then that was 23 years ago so my memory may not be perfect! As I said it really felt like an abandoned building that was being "squatted" as a music venue. Of the original list I saw REM in '83 at Irvine Auditorium at Penn. Let's Active opened. I also saw Miles Davis around '81. Far from his legendary period. I didn't see U2 until '84, saw them twice that year, they did a mini-tour of theaters (saw them at the Tower) and then a full tour of arenas (Spectrum). My first concert was Elvis Costello in April of '79 on the Armed Forces tour. Saw Zappa not long after that. I saw the original Replacements lineup at Houston Hall at Penn on the Tim tour. Milk has a sell-by date, not an expiration date. It's usually good for about a week past that. It goes faster after it's opened and also the more fat, the faster it spoils. If it doesn't smell bad, it's fine. You'd have to have a pretty bad cold to let a glass of spoiled milk get by your nose. I don't think deli meats have expirations either, unless for maybe pre-packaged. Ham will last a lot longer than turkey or beef. Salami is good for a millenium. For most cheese I'll just cut off the nasty parts. Meds, especially pills, I'll go a year or so past expiration. That timeframe can
