  1. Here we go again with the mastered vs. unmastered theories. Remember AGIB??
  2. See, I find Trace to be his most uninteresting release. Has it always been this highly regarded? Everyone always seems to point to Trace as Jay's masterpiece or something. I just don't get it. I'd much rather listen to any of his other releases. To me, Trace is like his "A.M." Good songs, but doesn't get much play because of how much better his later stuff got. I can't wait to her this new disc.
  3. I disagree. Now that I've had more time to sit with this disc, I think I may like it more than any other Lucinda release. To each his own I guess, but I am still shocked by the negativity by some here regarding "West". Almost as much as the negativity towards Dylan's last masterpiece, "Modern Times".
  4. How is it "lazy"? I mean, people bashed on Neil Young's Prairie Wind because the music and lyrics all sounded so simple. Are you saying it's like something along those lines? I would personally much rather hear lyrics like these, sort of homespun and direct, than anything that many curent hot bands pass off as lyrics.
  5. PLEASE don't let that stupid Pitchfork review sway you. But if you really didn't like World Without Tears, well I'm not sure you will enjoy this either. The lyrics are very "stream of consciousness" sounding and for me, it works great.
  6. I agree. I think Lucinda could read the phone book for 74 minutes and I would love it!
  7. Glad at least someone else is enjoying this great disc! I don't understand how you could be a Lucinda fan and not like it at least a little bit.
  8. Does anyone take Pitchfork seriously as music criticism anymore? Seriously people, I'm fine if you don't like the new record but don't pass off Pitchfork as some barometer on taste. Especially for a disc like "West". I guess Lucinda doesn't fit their hipster criteria anymore. Wanna bet the new Arcade Fire gets an 8.5 or higher?
  9. Well jeez, if you guys were looking for some sort of Achtung Baby/YHF direction from her than I can see why you are disappointed. It's also not fair. This new disc is fantastic on it's own. Why compare it to her other discs? You also need to spend time with it and not dismiss it after one of two plays....like any good disc.
  10. The Who-"Tommy" OR VU & Nico
  11. Well, this is one you MUST listen to more than once (not sure how you can form an opinion of any album with one listen). My first reaction was negative but once you let these songs soak in, they will haunt you. The songs seem simple, but she has a LOT going on lyrically as usual. This is not background music. "Where is my Love" may be her best song ever.
  12. Sometimes the lyric sheet is better than the song with her, but the new disc is still really great.
  13. Really? I think you may be the first person I know of with the guts to diss Patti Smith!
  14. --> QUOTE(Paul B @ Feb 9 2007, 09:13 AM) If Billy takes one more full page ad out in the Tribune announcing some "news" about himself, I may fall into a fit of hysteria. Maybe I'm just disappointed with the end result of their collective efforts-they really could of kicked some ass if they kept their cool and egos in check. Isn't it the music that matters?? He can put as many ads in the paper he wants, as long as he writes good songs.
  15. I sure didn't get the joke if that was his intention. Prince always throws in covers when he plays live.
  16. It's all over the net. Anyone have thoughts on it yet?
  17. Wow, I can't believe all the negativity about this on here. Maybe it's just me, but I think Billy Corgan is one of the most talented artists well..ever. Look, I'm 37 years old now and did I grow out of the Pumpkins-style of music a bit? Of course. But there is no denying that when they were around they made some of the best rock and roll on the planet. Will Billy sell more records calling it The Smashing Pumpkins instead of Zwan or a Billy solo disc? Of course he will. I always thought it was dumb of him to drop the name in the first place. It is and always was HIS band, so let him call it
  18. They will play "Message in a Bottle" for sure. No doubt in my mind.
  19. I dislike it as well. It's like they took everything that was quirky and fun about them and said, "we can't do that anymore". It sounds like they are going for the Talking Heads "Fear of Music" vibe and it fails. Sad, because I loved their first release.
  20. These Important Years-Husker Du
  21. Thanks so much for these. They both sound 100% better than the one version I have. Now I need to find a good copy of Something in the Air....
  22. Damn, with 14 posts I actually got excited.....
  23. It's not that No Code has the best PJ songs on it, but as an album front to back it is my favorite PJ release. It has the musical diveristy that is sorely laking on most of their other albums...
  24. The only show I have with this song on it is 12-31-04 and the sound is less than stellar. Anyone have this song in a soundboard version? It is one of my favorite covers of all time! They nailed it.
  25. All my kids want to do is watch TV. They did like The Beatles before they discovered SpongeBob.... I should say that they do like to dance around to Beck, but anything with a beat would do it for them.
