Forgive me for missing the intent of this thread. Didn't do it to bring out the nitpickers.

Speaking of Zeppelin, we're having a communication breakdown. I put The Beatles in my response, understanding the thread to mean "bands you wish that you had seen at any time," meaning had I been alive during their time, I would have liked to have seen them. But since the thread is actually about bands that you might have realistically had the chance to see, it makes the selection moot. Why aren't we picking on Froggie? Apparently he/she was born in '77, seven years after The Beatles broke up and three years before Zeppelin did. Don't think it would've been possible for him/her either.

Well, sorry everyone, geez. The thread title is not "bands you COULD have seen." I suppose the "but missed the chance" might imply that you could have seen them, but apparently my wishful thinking doesn't meet the parameters.

Have seen Clapton 2x, both were great. First was on his Pilgrim tour, second was a few years ago, Robert Cray opened the second show. Saw Bo Diddley once in a 500-seat theatre. It was atrocious, but to his defense, he was hospitalized a few days after that show, during which he had complained of feeling "funny."

Not to be a dick, but I didn't see the thread explicitly say "bands that were around in your lifetime." I interpreted it to be "any band that you wished you could have seen any time." What's the point of nitpicking something like this?

No, I thought the thread said "bands you wish you had seen." More so than one of their U.S. shows, which were drowned out by screaming teenage girls, I would have liked to have seen one of their Cavern Club gigs.

I enjoy some of her stuff, like her cover of "Words of Love." She was discovered and nurtured by Dan Auerbach, which is a good endorsement!

I think I'm in the very small minority of people that places Southern Rock Opera at the bottom of the list of favorite Truckers records. That's one that I really have a hard time sitting through from start to finish.

There's still an issue of self-editing. BTCD was nearly perfect for me, except it was 19 tracks and had some big-time filler. There's definitely a different sound/tone to them after Isbell left, and instead of three strong songwriters, now there's just 2, plus 1 developing songwriter, although I think Shonna's material is getting better. I really dig the straight-country tunes that Cooley comes up with. BTCD had a couple of great ones. "Everybody Needs Love" is also a great track here. LOTS of Patterson.

Now that it's out, any new thoughts on the record? Cooley's "Pulaski" is an early favorite.

OK, the "R.I.P." might be a little premature, but it's probably safe to say that they don't have many more years left in them. Even though I'm an iPad owner, I'm part of the crowd that still loves the feel of an actual book in my hands, and will continue to be.

I'm pretty sure Tweedy was an odd bird growing up a hardcore punk fan in small-town Illinois. There was a funny bit in "Learning How to Die" about him and Farrar showing up to jock parties in high school, decked out in their flannel and long hair, hijacking the stereo to put on Black Flag and then getting kicked out...

The O/B archive doesn't have that one...bummer. That's about as far as I go w/acquiring new live recordings -- the whole torrent thing just doesn't fly on my crummy home computer.

I wonder if it includes any of the tunes on this record.

I recommend this one. That entire recording is one of the best out there.

There are several options out there, best place to get them in one place is the Owl & Bear archive. You can hear the song in-the-works in a lot of shows from '02 and '03.
