  1. LaLa was great. Apple gobbled it up and at the same time said they were working on a cloud of their own. News of Google's just came into the picture recently. I haven't heard of any others right now, but news of Amazon's launching seemed like it'd be something people would be discussing around here...
  2. Based on his usual tastes, I started my brother out on a mix of AM, Being There and the Mermaid Avenue discs. He only casually sampled the mix for several months and didn't think much of it until he used it as a soundtrack for a road trip, then he was hooked. Now he declares AGIB to be the crown jewel of the catalog, although he enjoys it all...
  3. Surprisingly, Amazon has launched a new cloud player (with the exception of LaLa, RIP) before Apple or Google, both of which have programs in the works. I've yet to use it or try it out, but it looks like there are a few options on how it can be used. Has anyone else looked deeper into this? http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link_355091782_4/181-0603740-3686136?ie=UTF8&node=2658409011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=08Y00M454050XB3D4KKH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1291940422&pf_rd_i=163856011
  4. This is why I have a soft spot for Sky Blue Sky, being the first new Wilco record I heard since I became a fan. I enjoy a few songs from Evil Urges, but Z was the first new release of theirs I'd heard since becoming a fan...
  5. I want. And one of those jumbo Gibsons he seems to favor these days.
  6. Wilco's Facebook page just posted a picture of Tweedy holding a menu here with the following caption: "Lunch at the Sky Blue Sky Sandwich Company in Toronto today. Tweedy's review: "Lunch was really good, but, to be honest, I prefer their earlier more experimental sandwiches."
  7. 6/13/1982 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmALA8miQY8
  8. I saw one a few months back for about $80 but didn't get it...maybe I should have.
  9. I think the only thing that could have topped it would've been this. My wife was sitting next to me and went off the giddy scale. I just sat there and kept saying "wow" repeatedly. Some people didn't quite understand the significance. ;-)
  10. My co-workers threw me a farewell party/happy hour last night and presented me with an unexpected, awesome gift: an original pressing of A.M., on the red vinyl and w/o the sleeve, just as it came out on Sire in 1995. I was stunned!
  11. Phish does have some bad lyrics. On the same token, the bizarre lyrics (or just plain bad ones) sound good to me -- on some tracks. In some cases, I'm just as much into the way words and lyrics sound as what meaning they have. The line "if you're just starting at your walls / observing echoing footfalls / from tenants wandering distant halls / then this one is for you" doesn't seem to imply anything much more than a simple expression of loneliness, but it sounds good to me, particularly when paired with the music...
  12. I'd say something like this. His set in KC last summerwent something like that.
  13. Simply breathtaking playing on this one. Fans of Monk, particularly Alone in San Francisco, will want to hear this.
  14. The Blues Traveler set, as a whole, was tough to get through. I went with my wife and a friend while we were taking a week at my wife's grandparents' place in Colorado...thought it might just be a fun atmosphere to be at Red Rocks on Independence Day. Knowing they're jammy, I expected some drawn-out tunes during the show, but some of them just never seemed to end.
  15. They were on the bill opening for Blues Traveler on July 4th, 2007. I recall everyone around us being very bored until they pulled out "Blister in the Sun" at the very end of the setlist, and then everyone went nuts.
  16. Very close for me. I'd switch In Rainbows and OK Computer.
  17. That's what I'm talking about. This is awesome.
  18. I wondered if my corny pun would elicit a response. Success!
  19. I saw the edit. Thanks for pointing out that I'm alone in my misunderstanding. I guess I "missed the chance" to see those bands because I wasn't born yet, with the exception of Tupelo. I was 12 when they broke up, and wasn't much of a concert-goer then. Anyhoo...I guess I wish I wouldn't have passed on the Autumn Defense a few years ago in KC.
