  1. Just go to the page - it's right there. Dawned on Me, Whole Love, Born Alone, War on War. For those who've been gushing over John's bass playing on the new record, hearing him in these types of settings just reaffirms how melodic and groovy his bass lines are. And watching Glenn play percussion on his kit of random objects is a delight.
  2. Mostly the same - listen a little closer. There are a few subtle differences, including "momma just-a give me a break" after the lyric about cutting class, and "sittin' on the dock of the bay" at the end.
  3. According to Wilcobase, Wilco played Memphis in 2003 and 2005. IF there's any validity to this at all, my guess is that it would've been in the 2003 show -- but most definitely not in the 2005 show. I'm pretty sure he was clean and sober by then. Either way, I don't believe what your friend suggested happened at all. The diehards around here would definitely know about it and chime in.
  4. It's that ultra-sexy drumbeat by Glenn. But I'll take the album version over the live one any day. Something about the track on AGIB is just plain awesome.
  5. I enjoy Deeper Down through my headphones. Live, it was a complete show stopper, and I don't mean that in the good sense. Back to Being There: Hey! An old demo of Monday with some very bad lyrics! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGfpnr0prtU&feature=related
  6. Agree with Crow Daddy. I mean, which of the following are the kids going to enjoy more? or
  7. It's like ranking albums by The Beatles, for me. I love them all, some a little more than others. You could say I celebrate the whole catalog. But my preferences change with the seasons, moods, what else I'm listening to in a particular phase...
  8. I prefer the album version. I don't care for the Egyptian scale treatment that they give it now.
  9. This week, I'm batching them in groups of two. 1. Being There / A.M. 2. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot / A Ghost is Born 3. Summerteeth / The Whole Love 4. Sky Blue Sky / Wilco (The Album)
  10. I didn't care for I Might that much until I heard it in the context of the whole record. To me, its pairing with Art of Almost is as essential as Red-Eyed and Blue/I Got You.
  11. McCartney's Unplugged Session is pretty darn good too. I remember reading an article in Guitar Player once that said McCartney and Eric Clapton were the only two artists who actually performed entirely unplugged for the series.
  12. The Owl & Bear weighs in: Wilco‘s eighth studio album, The Whole Love, greets you like a Mack truck driving slowly and unexpectedly through your front door. The opening song, “Art of Almost,” starts delicately — with strings and synth swelling from silence — but then the drums centrifuge around the beat, eventually reaching a peak that gives way to band mastermind Jeff Tweedy’s unmistakable voice. As Tweedy’s relaxed whisper floats over a fractured percussive pulse, Nels Cline is unleashed, barreling through a blistering guitar like a feral dog acquiring new freedom. By the completion
  13. The Lonely 1 is outstanding. I love that it puts Being There on pause for a moment, creates just enough of a rest and offers a beautiful change of pace before the explosion that is Dreamer in My Dreams. The set from the KFOG radio session in 1997 has a lovely version of the tune with some nice piano work from Jay Bennett and some nice brush work on the drums from Ken Coomer.
  14. Maybe he's referring to the version of "The Lonely 1" that appears on the film soundtrack? Have a listen. http://allmusic.com/album/chelsea-walls-r584524
  15. Or the people who live in a state that's getting five shows but bitch because none of them are in their exact town.
  16. Decided to give Being There the full listen today. God I love this album.
  17. I enjoy occasionally reading people's comments on Facebook when Wilco posts something there. Today, Wilco addressed the complainers and question-asking folks with a comment about "if you go to wilcoworld.net and look at the shows page, you'll find information about things already on the schedule or things that just happened." Like the people complaining about no shows on the east coast or southeast.
  18. Seems like a strange destination for recording.
