Some folks just gotta understand that Wilco is not out to swindle anyone.

Gibson Firebird X Demo
choo-choo-charlie replied to choo-choo-charlie's topic in Solid State Technology
God forbid we have to turn the heads a few times, or encourage young musicians to learn how to use open tunings. I realize the convenience of it all, and the technological advancement it is for guitars, but stuff like this really turns me off more than it impresses me. -
It's amazing how far guitars have come. Despite all of this, I still think I'd rather play my crappy classical acoustic on my couch. I know it's not made from an endangered species. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rPwRcRiRHEc

I just watched this and sang the lyrics to "I Might" along with it. Works well.

It seems that some people think Wilco peaked with Summerteeth. I've seen in plenty of places folks slamming Yankee Hotel Foxtrot as the beginning of the band's descent into "Dad rock." Those same people bash A.M. as being boring and calling Being There only "occasionally inspired." So, by that reasoning, Wilco has only released one good album?

Thing is, this "reviewer" must not have been aware of the type of show she was going to, nor did she recognize it once she was there. It wasn't a rock show. It was an intimate acoustic performance. She even noted the stage setup - acoustic guitars, upright piano, banjo, etc. Not exactly a "rock" setup. I kind of see if like the Tweedy/Wilco thing; solo shows are "folk" shows while Wilco concerts are "rock and roll" so says the man himself.

I did spend just about that much a few weeks ago for two movie tickets, two drinks and one bag of popcorn. Robbery I say. Some of the comments are great in this story. My favorites are "A Ghost is Corn," "She's a Tin" and "Pot Kettle (of popcorn) Black."

I started out on the early years compilations, then on to Mule Variations and subsequently used that to get my older brother into Waits. I'm really digging the new one. Have been listening at least a few times a day all week.

That was my first thought -- how the picture pretty much perfectly sums up the state of the band at the time. I'm uncomfortable looking at it.

Whatever man. Why are you arguing this point? We both agree that her review was crap. I'd also like to add that I'm not implying every blogger is a "journalist" per se -- but traditional journalism as we know it is dying (or even dead to some), and music blogs are very much considered the new journalism in some folks' eyes. Maybe not yours.

They somehow think they're going to be a regular contender in the SEC. And a few of their fans that came to Manhattan earlier this month for the game apparently thought they were already in:

I hope you're right. Perhaps the WVU site put that up to try and quiet a few folks down until more concrete word comes out. The media has gone off the reservation with this one...

Pret-ty much. Growing up the son of a K-State athlete who played basketball from 1969-1972, I heard my share of perspectives on Big 8, then Big 12. It does seem odd that the actual physical footprint of a conference can be this disjointed, but like you said, the eyeballs and dollars matter most now.

Being at a rock concert generally entails being on your feet. You shouldn't have to be asked to show some enthusiasm.

The latest Ryan Adams thread V2.0

^^ At least that show received an actual review. Check out this dredge: http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/2011/10/ryan_adams_could_do_no_wrong_a.php. -
I don't understand why people periodically hear noise and feedback in Wilco sets and then say it lasted for the whole show. I mean, if you're going to review a band's concert, you should probably be somewhat familiar with their material and know what you're getting into. To me, complaining about those parts of a Wilco set is like complaining about getting wet when standing outside during a storm.

What a lazy, pathetic excuse for music journalism. That reviewer (who is likely a freelancer) should be fired.

That's incredible. Need to find that.

Hey there! Welcome! But I'm not sure it's a done deal or even a deal at all. I'd love to have the Mountaineers in the conference and get an annual rivalry going between Frank Martin and Bob Huggins. All of the college towns here in the Midwest -- and in the Big XII -- are quite charming and have great game day atmospheres. Many of us here are ready to bid farewell to Missouri at this point, since they've dragged out the issue past any point of being reasonable. Now they're just a thorn in our side. If they do end up staying in the conference, you can only imagine how unpleasant it could be aft
