  1. I sing, play guitar, bass, drums, dobro, banjo, harmonica and a little bit of piano -- but I'm not sure I'd consider anything I do be artistic. It's certainly not original.
  2. More gems: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088258/quotes
  3. Digging Ashes & Fire quite a bit, I'd probably put it in my top five with Heartbreaker, Jacksonville City Nights, Cold Roses and Gold.
  4. Another new interview up at wilcoworld.net with Joanne Greenbaum, the artist behind the artwork for The Whole Love. Photos at http://wilcoworld.ne...-album-artwork/ *** Wilco HQ: How long have you been painting? Joanne Greenbaum: My whole life since I was about 12 or even earlier. Wilco HQ: That's a long time. So where and how do you like to work? Has that changed over the years? JG: I live and work in the same place - a loft in downtown Manhattan, I've been in this particular space for about 20 years now. I prefer to live and work in the same space because I like the integration of d
  5. I'd be shocked if Wilco ever played a tune on which Billy Bragg sang lead.
  6. Being There is amazing. "Far, Far Away" was probably the first Wilco song that got me completely hooked.
  7. Another No Depression entry.More positive than the last review -- and this one might be on the way to another extended comment thread like its predecessor. Full text below. Story here. *** Nearly ten years ago, Jeff Tweedy and Wilco were basking in the glory. Having successfully usurped the music industry by buying back the label rejected Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, the band members were gracing magazine covers, topping year-end lists, and playing to the largest crowds of their career. Since then, Wilco’s fan base has gotten exponentially bigger and watched them turn into a live juggernaut as
  8. ^^ Nocturnal homicidal hallucinations are always sexy.
  9. Yeah. That dirty riff could be the oral aural equivalent of some dolled-up hussy dancing in a sleazy bar.
  10. This is a great track. I definitely prefer the album version with strings more than the version included on the bonus disc with strings removed. The way they were recorded, you can almost hear the bows streaking across the strings. Lovely. But to address the question posed in this thread -- I don't hear it as crackle, pop or hiss either. Gotta be some vintage piece of equipment.
  11. Agreed. It went to a new level on this one, and I'm excited to hear what else they can cook up.
  12. I think there's another thread around here for it, but on the 9/11 anniversary this year, a handful of publications churned out some articles that forged/forced connections between YHF and 9/11/01. They were more demonstrations of poor research and squeezing a square peg into a round hole.
  13. I was going to point out the same thing. There's a difference, folks.
  14. There might be a "special thanks to Jay Bennett" in there. Can't recall... ",,,the call letters, steel guitar, and settle down..."
  15. From Wilco's Facebook page: "Great news. Nick Lowe's coming back for the Nov./Dec. tour -- from 29 Nov. in Dallas through 12 Dec. in Chicago (Civic Opera House)."
  16. I believe A.M. and Trace are both great records, but for me, I'm not sure the former could ever be replaced by the latter.
  17. You know, it's been a long time since I've listened to any Widespread Panic. I thought their debut record was great. And I had the three-disc set of the live show in Athens (GA) that was pretty stellar. Probably haven't listened to that since 2001.
  18. Yes indeed. It was finished and was streamed prior to that date, and you've indicated, they were already on the road playing those songs. But the official release was April 2002.
  19. Cool. Would love to see the performances from that session!
  20. I've mentioned Henneman's liner notes in a few threads -- they came with the vinyl reissue of A.M. Finally got around to scanning it in last night and thought I'd share it with all of you fine people. Makes me love the record even more. *** A.M., Where to begin? The beginning, I guess. Problem is, I can't remember the beginning. Who hired me? Jeff? Tony? Was I ever officially "hired"? Hell if I know. I know I flew to Memphis, and started recording as soon as I got there. I DO remember wondering who was "in charge". There didn't seem to be a clear cut "leader". It was an odd time, the B
  21. Other observations: Art of Almost most certainly has more than one chord in it "Dressed in brown, looking like a Russian circus bear in a homburg hat, Tweedy continued the sports-metaphor teasing all night." Eh?
