They must be super high on Ventura if they didn't even want to talk to Francona or any other candidate. I guess this is the Kirk Gibson hiring philosophy, but at least Gibson coached for awhile. Still, I think Ventura already is better than Mattingly.

Looks like Steve Jobs has passed...
The High Heat replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
http://www.apple.com/stevejobs/ Tech-visionary was only 56. I'm kinda stunned about this. -
Ok. If it'll take me taking the job to keep Bobbi V. out of Boston, I'll do it. You want to play right field?
-
It's official, Francona wanted out and is free to go. I bet Bobby V. has a great big boner for Tito's old job, and I wonder if the Nationals are now not as keen on keeping Davey Johnson around for another season.
-
They got somebody better available? So far they're deciding not to decide. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Tito, but I'm guessing he's doubting if he wants to stay.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2011/09/francona_red_so.html Apparently the Red Sox and Terry Francona are about to part ways.

You're right, Pat had used Jeff's guitar. I don't think he would have made that sarcastic comment about the Jesus of Cool.

Got my deluxe at tonight's show in Raleigh! It's a hell of a lot louder than the rip I have! Jeff busted a string tonight playing Pot Kettle Black (coincidentally? and thankfully the house volume kicked up during that song, too). He said he hasn't done that in ages, and that it's a good sign that the new album is going to go platinum! Tweedy also said they spent the day reading amazon reviews and, as with every new release, he learned he was gay. Happens every time!

Lowe sang first verse of I Love My Label, Tweedy the second. 36 Inches was the absolute best part of the show and Lowe was playing an electric for these two songs! Kotche was otherwordly incredible the whole night!

Is Williams next to go? If so, does LaRussa come back to manage the South Siders?
-
Kungfu's preorder price is $18. I should hope they'll be available at the Raleigh show on release-day Tuesday. That's when and where I plan on buying my deluxe cd copy.

Born Alone, but I'm really digging the combo of Art of Almost and I Might. Some songs just go so perfectly together, like Monday and Outtasite.

No one else could have even said it, let alone say it better! Welfare to Lotti!

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/03/2012-mlb-free-agents.html Free agent list for the upcoming offseason. Looks like a used car lot: couple of Escalades (Pujols, Fielder, Reyes); old reliables (Cuddyer, Berkman); and a sturdy truck (Big Papi). The strongest position is closer, but only if options aren't picked up.
-
You don't want either one of those guys guarenteed for 7 years, do you? Fielder's father was done by age 36, and Prince is built like Mo Vaughn. I pity the fools that go beyond 5 years for him. I'd imagine C.J. Wilson is going to demand quite a paycheck this offseason, and the youngsters will be getting raises every year for a while. I can see a run at a Berkman, 2 year deal or a Heath Bell, 4 year or a K-Rod, 2 or 3 year deal. Too bad there's not enough good catchers to go around. Texas is one of several teams in need of an upgrade there.

Thank you, Donna. As you can imagine the insurance companies and contractors here are swamped, so it will take awhile to get it all back together. Luckily, her boyfriend and his friends are all pretty handy and, most importantly, available to help immediately.

My sister needs a new roof and attic, several new walls, a few ceiling and floor repairs, some carpeting replaced,etc...oh, and sedatives. Gotta have those!
-
1st pic is the rain coming down the walls of her son's bedroom during Irene right after the tree fell. 2nd is the ceiling of the sunroom nearly bursting (this is from the missing shingles that were blown off before the tree fell).
-
The 2nd picture is from inside the attic.

My sister finally got internet service. She posted pictures of her home's damage on FB. Here are some low-lights: This tree smashed not only the roof and attic, but also a concrete pillar under the house, which is currently jacked-up for that particular repair.
