I have heard a lot of things about Steely Dan but never poor production. Then again I don't think I have ever listened to them with Headphones.

That's big time stuff right there! Congrats!

REM overrated / underrated from Magnet Magazine

I always thought Ignoreland was underrated. -
Really? Detractors? For his singing? I thought he sounded amazing.

So I was just listening to the 4/2/89 show (Pittsburgh it looks like). Very cool hearing Dear Mr. Fantasy into Hey Jude! I was wondering who that is singing lead vocals on those songs? Very bluesy voice, sounded kind of like Warren Haynes or something.

This is the man that wrote the immortal lines "This is my groovy happening, and it freaks me out" (Beyond the valley of the dolls). That alone makes him a legend, but the Oprah thing, that puts him on another level.

I'll back you on that one, I think they get a bad rap. It's cliche to say but I think the best stuff is not the stuff you hear on the radio. Not sure how you could dismiss "Aurora", "Hey Johnny Park", "Headwires", etc... as anything but great songwriting. Then they play that crappy new "wheels" song on the radio and it confirms people's perception of them. C'mon, Prince covered them at the Super Bowl.

I am 100% ashamed to admit this but I would have to say Grateful Dead. I never hated them, they just were not on my radar really. Now I'm driving the wife and friends crazy trying to turn them on to it, I'm spending hours dissecting the guitar parts. It seems amazing to me now but like many people I thought they were just a bunch of boring instrumental noodlers so never gave them much of a chance. Now I can't picture going more than a week without listening to them. I have this warped sense that the only reason anyone would not like them is because they have not listened to them. Just because

You know, it would not surprise me. Geez that Danger Mouse is a talented guy. Seems to be able to make great music with anyone. James Mercer sounds amazing on this. This could be on some end of year best of lists for sure.

Just listened to Funeral today. They are up near the top of my must see list as well. I have never had the pleasure.

Weird, I was just telling my fellow band members that we should do "Something in the Air". I think a few of them think it's a Tom Petty song.

Keith Richards uses his open G 1 finger chord to the m7 hammer on in about 90% of his songs. (Start me up, Brown sugar, Happy...). I'm not complaining, it works. Black Crowes use this quite a bit as well. -
I would have to agree, you can't go wrong with a Taylor.

I would go with the above but then again I guess that would not be all that blasphemous. -

I always think of the National. A guy I never met in my life heard me cranking a Wilco album in a parking lot and ran up to me and gave me a CD by the national. He said if you like Wilco you will like the National. Of course I do like the National.

I just found out my next door neighbor of the last 10 years grew up with and is good friends with David Hood. In fact he is the godparent of her kids. Then she happens to mention that Patterson Hood stayed at her house last time he was in town, meaning Patterson Hood was staying right next door to my house and I didn't even know it. WTF? She really has no idea how popular Drive by Truckers are and was surprised I even heard of them (she does not actually care for their music). We have had dinner together, her kids stay the night at our house, how is it I did not know about this! She knows I'm

First listen in headphones, a revelation. The song "Antenna" is just so painfully good.

I vastly prefer Letterman and Conan but I'm actually starting to feel kind of bad for Leno. I know that makes no sense but he always seemed like a nice enough guy. I just kind of assume the entertainment bizz is every man for himself.
