  1. You are right about that. Bust that song out late at night at just about any bar, especially the ones where people work hard all week and are there to unwind, and the crowd comes alive. I don't think anybody singing along is thinking ironically or that they are protesting in some way. I always figured this song was a lot like Rockin in the free world. Basically that america is not perfect but it beats the hell out of most places.
  2. Wow, I think your right. The San Jose show was the make up show. I have a sorry ass memory but I was at both of them. It's all a blur to me. I just remember 2 shows, the one in golden gate park WAS the one where Eddie got sick and Neil took over. For the life of me I can't keep straight the 2 shows. I just remember The Fastbacks, Bad Religion, and Ben Harper opening but can't remember which show was which. I remember people booing the fastbacks. I remember seeing Stone Gossard at the side of the stage watching Ben Harper do Voodoo Chile in awe. It's all really scattered in my memorie
  3. Listening right now so no vote. Sounds good so far! Do you play any/all of the instruments on it?
  4. Best album I have found to listen to while going for a run. Get's the blood pumping.
  5. Boy am I out of the loop, but then again I usually am. I'm hearing way more love for No Code then I have ever heard anywhere else. Kind of a dumb question but what is it about that album that makes it a fan favorite? Jack Irons? Lyrics? Production? Obviously songwriting but why? It's not one that grabbed me off the bat so I forgot about it and put it away and I'm thinking that was a mistake. Maybe it was too mellow at a time I was looking for something harder. Seems like ten ranks low on a bunch of lists, is that because it got so overplayed? I did get a bit burned out on "Alive", a
  6. Sounds like you have excellent taste in music. Welcome!
  7. The Fulltone Fulldrive 2 is what I use and I love it. Through a Fender Deville. Gets a nice Black Crowes/Stones type sound.
  8. There's a video of my old band doing "Evenflow" on my myspace page. Starts a little raggedy but gets a little better. Not the best performance ever but not horrible. We are much butter now of course! Actually we have a new singer and bass player so completely different. Here's the link if you want to subject yourself. I'm the jackass on the left playing the strat. http://www.myspace.com/uglimoss
  9. The Neil Jam show in San Jose was great, Bad Religion opened and they were also really good. I have to say I was a bit dissapointed in the fans. There were a huge contingent of us that were stoked that the show did not get cancelled and we could watch Neil and Pearl Jam. There was also a huge amount of people that were pissed and booing Neil. I couldn't believe it but they were mostly young fans who were there to Mosh and drink. I understand being disspointed but how do you possibly Boo a living legend who is filling in at the last moment? Like it's his fault Eddie was sick? Take your du
  10. I have thought about diving into the lap steel world as well so will keep an eye on this thread. I was not even sure where to begin. Don't even really know if I want a lap or pedal steel.
  11. My understanding was that this still works for links that don't have the high quality video option but not sure how often that would apply. Oh well.
  12. Thanks for the tip, I will most def be checking it out!
  13. You have been to 31 shows and you hate me? Hell, I was jealous of you! I'm not even in double digits! What's the best show you have been at? Any memorable ones?
  14. If you find it, let us know. Like most players I am still looking for the "sound" which for me would be the sustain of a highly distorted amp (for leads) with the clarity to be able to play a diminished chord without it sounding like a complete mess. SRV had an amazing sound. That guitar just screamed but sounded so clean for rhythms and chord work.
  15. Dang, sorry if I led anyone astray. I did not see a difference either but thought maybe I did not have the right settings or something.
  16. Seen them a bunch, the best one being at the Greek theatre in Berkeley on Halloween night 1993. Henry Rollins and American Music Club opened up. Great night, great weather, I was right in front (even caught one of McCready's guitar picks). Eddie came out in this weird Jesus outfit holding a cross. They did Baba O' Riley, Sonic Reducer, and Fuckin' up (among others) during the encore. I also saw them in San Jose and Eddie Vedder left after 2 songs because he was so sick with the Flu. Neil Young came out to finish the show. Watching Neil doing Cortez with the band was a highlight. A bun
  17. Either they were really good or the painful skits ("It's Gilly! - WTF?) made them look good in comparison. I had never seen them live, they can really pull off those vocal harmonies. That's a talented bunch.
  18. Cause he's not a Rolling Stone favorite. I love SRV.
  19. For some reason this brought to mind the comedian that said that after the riots in LA, the cops went into Tower records and all that was left was the Gordon Lightfoot section.
  20. Just watched Slumdog Millionaire. Very unique movie.
  21. Just visiting this thread for the first time. Some great stuff. I didn't see (could be wrong): All those years ago - George Harrison - The lines "Living with good and bad, I always looked up to you" give you a sense that John was sort of a big brother figure and I just find it very touching. Fallen Angel - Robbie Robertson - Nice song written for another fallen fellow band member. Angels and Fuselage - Drive by Truckers - More haunting than sad but the description of "Friends on the ground, friends in the trees..." paint a horrific picture of the skynard crash.
  22. I agree with previous posts, turning the amp up is going to help a ton. If you can't do that I think Pedals can really help. I have a Fulltone Fulldrive that has a nice sound.
  23. Never heard of this before and not even sure it's on the level but... In order to watch videos on youtube in high quality even though that is not an option you: Simply add &fmt=18 to the end of the url and hit enter. Here is an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ClZFX8AsXc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ClZFX8AsXc&fmt=18 If nothing else, this is a great song.
  24. Your right, I don't know any hardcore PJ fans so it's great to get that perspective. I clearly have not given No Code a good enough listen and will make it a plan to do that. Been awhile since I dusted off Binaural come to think of it.
  25. Interesting. Kind of a far cry from the Rock Bottom Remainders. I heard Stephen King listens to a bunch of Johnny Winter when he writes.
