I still play the At the Drive in stuff more than Mars Volta but in the right mood I like them both.

It surprised me how mellow this one was when I first heard it. It's a good late night or Sunday morning record. It grew on me.

Neutral Milk Hotel at #11 kind of surprised me. -
Loving this one! (Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart)

I'm not aware of anyplace nearby that Pavement played. I have not heard why they are downsizing but it surprises me. I know this area leans heavily towards jam bands and bluegrass but I would think there was a solid enough fanbase for them. I just assumed the show sold out a long time ago but I got my tickets the first day.

I guess I could have saved everbody some time by doing the Wiki thing first! Thanks for the link.

I just got an e-mail saying they are moving my Sep. 9th Pavement show from a 3500-6500 (First bank center) capacity place to a 1600 capacity place (Ogden theatre). I'm pretty damn happy about it but it makes me wonder, is the Pavement tour not selling well?

The Dylan thread may find it's way in here... I was thinking about songs that might make my daughter have to do a little work to figure out what the literary references are. For example I would not put "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits on the list. But the topic is interesting to me so even the more obvious ones are great and thanks to everyone for the great ideas so far. It's funny, when I read PopTodds "Golden Hair" for some reason I read it as "Sister Golden Hair" by America. I was trying to make sense of that being a Joyce poem. I was thinking the Piper at the Gates of dawn

That's an interesting take on it, never thought of it that way. I can't watch the video from work but I remember seeing it before and I picture Dylan doing his best to not crack a complete smile, I always thought he was being completely tongue in cheek but maybe there was a little element of truth in there for him.

So to kick off the school year I thought I would make my daughter a mix tape of songs that have literary references. She is a fan of rock trivia and puzzles so I'm hoping to keep her busy figuring out the references for awhile (If this has been done already I would love to get a link). Just a few off the top of my head to get the ball rolling: Nantucket Sleighride - Mountain - Moby Dick (possibly the finest whaling song in rock?) Ramble On - Zep - Lord of the rings Don't stand so close to me - Police - Lolita

If not for you - George Harrison.

I always thought this one was strange, guess that's why it didn't last long. Total 50's imagery in the fold, never fit the Beatles at all.

Yep, looks like it's the same show. Put me down for Goin Blind as well, great song. Would be so cool to see them pull something like that out on a talk show!

I think Mark Lanegan could do a good job covering "Funky Cold Medina". This is sounding pretty good.

Just thought I would mention that KISS is on Leno tomorrow night (Wednesday 8/18/10).

Have a great Birthday!

The last wedding I went to, the father/daughter dance was "Forever Young" by Dylan. Can't think of a good mother/son song. All the ones that come to mind don't exactly work (Mother by Lennon or Pink Floyd). Is she a "Red neck Mother"?

Is that the pesky "Rain Song" tuning? I remember learning rain song years ago and playing all day long, now I have forgotten it. What other zep songs use that tuning?

I picked up the CD at Target for $7.99 so I didn't get the clear vinyl. Twist and Shout in Denver was giving that away with a purchase of the album. I know I have a version of them doing "Willin" somewhere. Wow, that set list is pretty good but 2 hours does seem a bit short for them. "One mirror too many" was one of the highlights when I saw them years ago.
