yep. those are solid. i think it's telling that certain genres (folk, blues, soul) are more represented than say, rock or metal. maybe people mellow in their old age (aside from Gira, that is).

Cave's a good one... and possibly The Dirty Three as well but Warren's 49 now. the first Grinderman record was made when he was 49, so that doesn't make the cut.

I'll give credit to Nick Cave for that one. but i hear where you are coming from. i'd give Rubin some of the credit too... not sure who picked the songs and did the arrangements. essential to me means that as a fan of that record, you listen to it quite a bit and it's as good as their best work.

there are some acoustic guitar players that would qualify...i am not sure how old Alan and Rick Bishop are, but they have to be mid-50s. Glenn Jones is certainly that old as well. all have made excellent records in the last 5 years.

a lot of that Rubin material was covers though.

the thread about Neil (and the apparent lack of interest in his recent work) made me think about the relationship between the aging process and the creative process... it would definitely seem that most people lose their creative spark as time moves on. what do you have? Robyn Hitchcock was 52 when Ole Tarantula came out, definitely the most even of his later records. Robert Pollard's put out an amazing 30 LPs (solo, GBV, Circus Devils, Boston Spaceships, etc) since turning 50, and at least a handful of those stand up (most notably the Spaceships stuff) i know Dylan's got his fans but

yeah that weed banter was funny. remphish1, the rain only happened on Saturday (the day i missed). Fri and Sun were perfect! i was surprised there wasn't more people there...i'd only been to the Spring 2014 event, but there was definitely less people this time. weird, since you'd figure all the college students would be up for a music festival at the beginning of the school year. i had no idea who 21 Pilots or The 1975 were, but the kids seemed to be into them. Spoon played a great set, best I've seen of them yet.

solid set. i wasn't sure if Westerberg was drunk, or just that it sounded like he was mumbling and slurring stuff between songs. i dug it, though. will post some photos later tonight. haven't even looked at them yet.
