  5. oh, and The Mercy Seat was staggering as well.
  6. i did take pics...that was a saga in and of itself. yeah, when he was singing "Deanna" my friend who was next to me captured it on vid...amazing! he was right in front of us on the chair backs. he spent a lot of time over at our side, way more than stage right. in terms of shooting the show, pull up a chair...here's my long-winded diatribe that i posted on my facebook page today from a fan's perspective, last night's Nick Cave show was amazingly awesome. from a photographer's, it was a nightmare. here's the bloody saga...sorry for my weeping (and he did play "The Weeping Song"). 1 - i

  11. i would be glad to see them play "Don't Fear The Reaper" again..i've never seen them do it. i could also see them taking on a Pavement song...maybe something like "Gold Soundz" or "Silence Kit" for the hell of it, i would like to see these: "Fearless" (Pat taking lead vocals) - Pink Floyd "Smash It Up (Pts 1 and 2)" - The Damned "Pink Frost" or "Dan Destiny and The Silver Dawn" - The Chills "Spiral Architect" - Black Sabbath (might be out of Tweedy's vocal range, but it would be awesome) "Couldn't You Wait" - Silkworm "Chicago At Night" - Spoon "Walking With Jesus" - Spacemen 3 "River
  12. i will occasionally prod for a response, but hopefully don't cross over into full troll territory and insulting people. maybe i will check out that Dead rendition (though my friend tells me Cornell '72 was the zenith, and that didn't hit me square between the eyes)
  13. but using MIDI detracts, and markedly so. mixing facts and opinions is always a tricky proposition. i should re-read this book: http://www.amazon.com/Celine-Dions-Lets-Talk-About/dp/082642788X
  14. i've been deemed a failure. this was unexpected, and frankly, quite crushing. edit - i guess i touched a throbbing nerve. it wasn't like i called jerry a nine-fingered junkie or anything. yes, to each his own. the dead are a band that has never ever clicked for me, despite the best efforts of some of my friends.
  15. non-jazz division (otherwise, Joey Baron heads to the top of the heap) Emil Amos (Grails, OM) Martin Bulloch (Mogwai) Dave Lombardo (ex?-Slayer) Mario Rubalcaba (tons of bands, all of whom rock hard) Rafael Martinez (Black Cobra) Brann Dailor (Mastodon) John Convertino (Calexico) Mac McNeilly (The Jesus Lizard) Britt Walford (Squirrel Bait, Slint, Breeders) John Maher (Buzzcocks) Dave Ruffy (The Ruts) Jaki Liebeziet (Can) Pete de Freitas (Echo and the Bunnymen) there are some really good drummers and i am sure i am omitting some obvious names. but the ones above really stand out (esp. 16. the popcorn vendor was mind-melting. what did one deadhead say to the other when they ran out of drugs? "This band sucks"
