top ten artists of the decade
tinnitus photography replied to Dondante's topic in Someone Else's Song
i really like _Shelter from the Ash_ a lot, and _Dark Noontide_ as well. _Songs For Octavio Paz_ is pretty mellow, but good. they are 12" records; the Tyst Minut came as a bonus CD on the _Tat De Lugnt_ cd reissue. not sure if _Samtidigt_ has been reissued...it originally came out on Mexican Summer which is an off-shoot of Kemado and has put out some fine fine records, including ones from Kurt Vile and Wooden Shjips. -

i am still waiting to see them play live...it just hasn't worked out the last couple of dates they've played boston (was out of town, and the 2nd time the show sold out and i couldn't get in). -

I had The National and Wilco in my mind, but just because DtS put out the relative clunker BAAC, it hardly detracts from the greatness of SRO, TDS and DD. likewise, Neko's only got two records which i consider stunners, and they are the last two. Wilco was a tough one, but ultimately they didn't make the cut. another attempt could yield a different list. i'd say the only true locks on the list would be Mogwai and Boris. -

seeing Cortez' list makes me realize that both Drive-By Truckers and Jason Molina belong. but who to chop off? -

no, the best live LP ever made (and one not listed in this top 100) is BOC's _On Your Feet Or On Your Knees_. -
well how about the fact that, unlike books, the MSRP for any cd is typically the same (not counting 'nice price' stuff).

Your favorite 80's American "college rock" band
tinnitus photography replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
for me it'd be REM, mainly because i probably listened to them more in college than all the other bands combined. 2nd place would be CVB; didn't get into husker and SY until late college or after college. the Femmes i was listening to in high school. -
those two fucking rock. great stuff.

Criminal Records is a great store. i checked it out a bit when they did the 3 band in-store before Scion Rock Fest...totally dug it. for me, it's because mail order is so much easier...i live ~30 miles from the stores now, and browsing the racks is something i only get to a few times a year.

i saw Wolf get there late...he was up in that little side balcony, stage-left. bill janowitz was there too. i did notice the blank marquee outside but didn't think anything of it. -

i'll be doing a writeup w/ some photos, but i was only approved to take shots of Calexico, and not Neko. -

i was showing up in this thread to make the same post. man, Neko was fired up about the promoter. i tried to do some sleuthing to find out the root of the matter but my source told me that joey and john didn't know what it was. good show though! -
Wilco to play Neil Young tribute show in L.A.

and take Dave Mathews w/ him. how is Howe Gelb not invited? J Mascis? screw that lineup. i wanna make my own show. -
I really enjoyed this show on Sunday...I'd seen the Who a couple of times (1st 'farewell tour' at Shea in '82 w/ the Clash, and then again in Foxboro in '90 or so) and have always been a fan. Seeing Roger having so much fun doing whatever he wanted to was a blast. REVIEW and PHOTO GALLERY

well even if the cd dies, that's a hell of a mausoleum.
