  1. dave matthews gives me virulent gonorrhea. that vid was ace.
  2. aside from Skeletonwitch, did you check out any other bands who were playing inside? Converge was crazy, Trash Talk was fun, i dug the intricate riffing of Krallice, and 1349 were cool. the small stage upstairs (purgatory?) was always too jammed, but i did see Harvey Milk for a song or two.
  3. since i saw over 220 band sets this year (the most this year was Mastodon, w/ 3) it's hard to trim the list down...here's a top 20, with no particular order other than the top 5, w/ some honorable mentions tossed in. 1 - Mark Burgess @ Hennessey's incredible show, coming together most improbably. mark pressed local band curtain society into service as his backing band and played a ton of old chameleon songs, along with a couple of covers. to make the evening even more improbably, marty willson-piper of the church drove up from NYC and took the stage to join in for 'splitting in two.' amazi
  4. i've seen Chris Corsano twice this year (once w/ Six Organs of Admittance, once as half of the Flower/Corsano Duo) and he's a fantastic drummer.
  5. awesome, thanks! btw, i wouldn't have posted this if i didn't think that prefixmag is a good site. i do quite a bit of shooting for it, and it's a good way to get updates on music news, and read some record reviews.
  6. hey Dondante, that definitely has a very painterly feel to it. cool shot.
  7. This is a bit of a selfish request, but here goes anyway... One of the shots I took this year (a close up of Tony Iommi's guitar, better seen in larger detail by clicking the photo below) has been entered into a contest for best concert photo of the year. What I'm asking of you is the following: 1 - register for a free account at the contest host http://www.prefixmag.com here: http://www.prefixmag.com/accounts/register/ 2 - once you've registered, check your inbox (and spam folder) for an email that contains a link you need to click, to confirm your registration (this cuts down on
  8. i hadn't seen that Roger's got control of FN again...awesome news. chris matthews (headless chickens) was complaining about the fact that warners wouldn't let him post his own songs on facebook...what a clueless label. and that documentary is fantastic...i highly recommend anyone curious about flying nun to watch all nine installments.
  9. 'french disko' is such a great song
  10. you can't go wrong w/ these: switched on mars audiac quintet tomato emperor ketchup aluminium tunes Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements refried ectoplasm dots and loops i would start w/ the one i bolded, though.
  11. he's funny as hell...love the between-song stage banter. definitely see him live if you get the chance.
  12. i'm glad to see another Kurt Vile recognizer.
  13. my top 40ish 1 polvo - in prism 2 bill callahan - sometimes i wish we were an eagle 3 kurt vile - god is saying this to you.../childish prodigy 4 sir richard bishop - freak of araby 5 boston spaceships - zero to 99 6 death - for the whole world to see... 7 jack rose - the black dirt sessions 8 reigning sound - love and curses 9 om - god is good 10 sylvester anfang II - sylvester anfang II 11 neko case - middle cyclone 12 natural snow buildings - shadow kingdom 13 oneida - rated O 14 dinosaur jr - farm 15 baroness - blue record 16 espers - III 17 papercuts - you can have what you want 18 teet
  14. of their list, i would agree w/ inclusions (not necessarily placings) of Baroness, Bill Callahan, Dino Jr, and Flaming Lips. that Sunn O))) record was disappointing. no kurt vile listed...that's a crime against humanity.
  15. didn't Elton John file for bankruptcy once? regardless of how much you make, it can be problematic if you spend more.
  16. but Robert's last name isn't King. which is pretty crucial to the point being made.
  17. to me that song is more about the riff, and not the solo. but as riffs go, that's numero uno. a fucking blast of rock like you've never heard before. i'm pretty psyched to see Iggy + Williamson + Asheton + Watt rip through _Raw Power_ next year.
  18. absolutely. that one smokes. my favorite has to be from "Last Days of May," the live version off On Your Feet Or On Your Knees from Blue Oyster Cult. Buck Dharma's got a lot of killer solos, and that is one for the ages.
  19. do photos have to be taken this year?
  20. that's a good song. not as good as 'high rise' though. if you want the cd now, there are sites in NZ selling it.
  21. counting reissues and live records, comprised of songs made decades ago, doesn't work for me when crafting a compelling argument about what was created in this decade.
  22. i've really only traveled in europe, but can strike new zealand off the list.
  23. My list shares exactly one choice w/ Mojo's, and it's at the same position (#2).
