analogman, the Wilco LP reissues sound amazing.

i actually bought a reissue on LP recently that included the large photo booklet and it cost $30, which i thought wasn't too bad.

no worries. i've certainly exceeded my quota of posts/emails/things said that i'd rather have back. i mainly do it to promote the piece i was on assignment for, as i know that the fans would likely want to see/read about it. i do this for a lot of the stuff i shoot (post links on facebook pages, last.fm events and band pages, myspace comments, etc). it's of no use if very little people see it. the other issue (use of photos/watermarking) is a contentious one...each photographer has to make up his/her mind about what sort of control they wish to exert on how the images are used. the

Is the Compact Disk (CD) Dead?

the 180g thing is more on aesthetics and inferred quality rather than actually hearing a difference, i think. virgin vinyl has probably more affect on sound quality. the remastering and quality of the pressing certainly matters quite a bit. the Neil Young records were really expensive; major label vinyl in general seems to be pricier than the typical indie release (not counting ultra-deluxe/small pressing records). i like what Matador is doing w/ these lesser-priced LPs...they give the fan the choice of springing for the high dollar/nice cover/180g etc trappings and pay accordingly, -
true, but this decision isn't driven by members of viachicago, but by the band and/or their management. that's an interesting perspective. what gives a fan photo more relevance and emotional connection for you? and how can one tell the difference? i've addressed the annoying/not annoying point in the final quote below, but i am unclear on what you mean about the 'quick dismissal' of work by Wilco fans. this is not true. there are loads of fan-sourced recordings available, as well as at least four official DVD releases from the band. the problem as i see it is that ther

as a working pro, i just ask that fans who do get passes to be considerate of other photographers and be aware of established etiquette (eg, like not using flash unless specifically OK'd by the person granting the photo pass, not being rooted in one spot for too long, being mindful of others' positions when moving in the pit, etc).

because wilco fans are selfish and can't control themselves? i recall hearing a story of a performance that Robert Fripp did, where beforehand he specifically stated that no photos were allowed, period. during the first 10-15 minutes, someone decided they were special and took a photo. Fripp noticed it, and stormed off stage. after a while, he was eventually convinced to go back and play, but the mood had totally been ruined. let's hope Tweedy doesn't resort to that, but there's nothing to stop him from doing so.

sorry, i guess i misunderstood your point...i thought you were saying that DC and TJ used to be reasonably priced and now were exorbitantly priced. good to know...i've got a pile of cds that i should sell. but, i do tend to agree w/ him...it's not very hard to do some internet searching and finding good quality mp3s of most any cd released...which kinda makes the cd superfluous to some...so why spend $6 on a cd? -
Rusty nailed it. Is it really that hard to respect someone's request for 2 hours?
-
i think it's directly related to Jeff's annoyance at people viewing the concert through an LCD screen rather than directly through their own eyes.

how long ago? the current standard list price for Drag City LPs is $14. i just checked a few thrilljockey releases and they were either $10 or $13 for LPs. doesn't seem so bad to me. there are definitely more boutique pressings that stretch towards $20-$30 per unit, and these are 180g, double disc, nice artwork type releases (at least most of the time). btw, here's the link i was referring to: http://terminal-boredom.com/forums/index.php?topic=22102.0 here's a choice quote from a guy who runs a label (S-S records) -
black eye. the only time i talked w/ Jay, he seemed pretty damned serious. could just be his personality.

it's a lot more expensive on a per unit basis to manufacture LPs as compared to CDs. there was a good thread on Terminal Boredom recently, but damned if i can't find it. i would say the key is knowing your limit to what you would pay, and using auctionsniper. -

more often than not, a new LP will come w/ a digital download card. and if it didn't come with one, there are a lot of ways to source mp3s... -
i would LOVE to hear that song. certainly one of my favorites, from any band.

i stopped by my local location of Newbury Comics today and they had a sale on metal cds...got these: candlemass - essential doom 1349 - works of fire, forces of hell pre-electric wizard 1989-94 and the new High on Fire from Best Buy, since that edition has 3 exclusive tracks.

has jackson brown's chin always been that fucked up, or has he been going to Jacko's surgeon?

the lineup that played last night was most of the original guys...we all know Ron died last year, but James Williamson was onboard for _Raw Power_, and Dave Alexander died years and years ago...Watt's been in the live lineup for a while now. plus they had Steve Mackay on sax, who played on _Funhouse_. drag _Funhouse_ out of its dusty hiding spot and crank that bitch. one of the best rock records ever.

i am working on photos from the Scion thing, but my wife DVR'd the Stooges songs, and i just watched 'em. fucking awesome. C'MON RICH PEOPLE. how the FUCK can someone be sitting down on the ass of their multi-thousand Armani suit when "search and destroy" and "i wanna be yr dog" get played? at least Iggy coaxed a few on stage w/ him. most of the fucks in the audience didn't even know the words to the song.

Thanks Moss! hardcore is a variant which grew out of punk rock...the tempo became much faster and the music harder. some of the early practitioners were bands like Black Flag (later era), Negative Approach, Dead Kennedys, Die Kreuzen, as well as UK bands like Discharge, GBH, etc. At least that's the hardcore i remember. i lost interest in the mid to late 80s, but still like to listen to it occasionally.

i shot Coalesce and D.R.I. last week...does that count?
