i can't believe that a couple of copies went for $150 via ebay...RSD is gonna turn into idiots scooping up armfuls of stuff they don't care about, and hoping to make some $ via flipping on ebay. i had heard that some stores had 1 copy per person rule in place, which makes some sense. i don't think they should advertise the pressing size, personally. if someone doesn't know how limited something is, they may not make arbitrary purchases, and fans will be able to get 'em.

maybe Neil Hamburger will be part of the comedy...

8 LPs? damn, i only got 4.

i heard that the Joy Division box was $250.

but their Beach House 12" download wasn't ready for today

i've never even heard of it. JP is a real PITA for me to get to, so i rarely get there.

well maybe they are hoping that the draw of certain titles gets people into the store, but if that title is sold out, then the person might buy something else. maybe even something not RSD-related.

they cover Iron Maiden's _Powerslave_. another man's done gone how to fight lonliness theologians kamera just a kid monday outtasite(outtamind) i'm a wheel i got the last (only?) box @ the store today. the friendly policeman hired for security alerted me to it after i was talking w/ someone and mentioned i'd not seen it. he is a fan and saw the Boston show.

i am definitely going w/ a download link...i'm out on vacation next week, so i won't have access to my music in the time being...is there any sort of theme to this, or can we just pick what we want?

i think people are confusing '% of listening time' with '% of record collection' i can never devote a substantial amount of listening time to just a single artist, though i have been playing a ton of Wilco lately. but, $300 worth of records just showed up in the post a couple of days ago, so i'm digging into that (1st record i put on was a great 10" from a band called The Amazing, who has the drummer and lead guitarist from Sweden's Dungen...great stuff).

i think last year i got the Stooges 7", the Jesus Lizard singles set, MMJ 2x10" and later the GBV 12". oh, and the Wilco DVD. maybe one or two others. i scored one of the SY splits via their website. i just scanned through and there's about a dozen things i'd pick up...SY's _EVOL_, dum dum girls split 7", BMSR 2x12", hold steady LP, Fela Kuti 10", Wilco's KT, Stones 7", Hendrix 10", Strummer's _Streetcore_...definitely a good way to drop some $.

i think that uploading a zipped file is a lot easier than burning a cdr and then trudging down to the post office. am happy to play by those rules.

was the Ozzy book part of this series? i agree that these titles aren't just dry re-telling of recording details, etc...the authors have much leeway to editorialize how they see fit. Darnielle's book on _Master of Reality_ is outstanding because of this. Pernice's book reads as a fictitious memoir about the romanticism of youth, w/ that record as a backdrop. the Dion book considers what makes taste either 'good' or 'bad,' which i thought was very interesting. -

just found this thread and i am intrigued by the Head On post...will be looking for a copy of that. Cope's a great musician, and sadly under-rated. was a bit surprised to see no mention of any of the 33 1/3rd books out on Continuum...there are a lot of titles, each one ostensibly focused on a single record, and typically written by either a musician or rock critic. i've only read a few, but they were all good, esp the Celine Dion and Black Sabbath ones. i've also read the Byrds and Smiths titles, and have the GBV one on deck. you can get 'em really cheap used, and i will definitely be -
Spring Tour Appreciation Thread

i thought it was a great way to get re-acquainted w/ some songs that i took for granted, like 'airline to heaven' or 'laminated cat.' even the stuff you knew was coming ('shot in the arm,' 'impossible germany') sounded fantastic, and the band took some care to slightly tweak the versions. i rarely ever see a band back-to-back (i think i can count the instances on one hand...neil young, sonic youth, mogwai, guided by voices, and now wilco) but this was a no-brainer given the format. -
i imagine that ProTools is a lot more than WireTap thanks for doing this, will download when i get home.

i wonder if it's a coincidence that Peter plays w/ both the Minus 5 and the Venus 3.
