  1. it's the 2nd time i've seen Spoon, and the 3rd time for Deerhunter. i really like listening to Spoon, but at this point i think listening at home to the records will suffice. I liked Deerhunter's set, and this was 1st time i saw them w/ only 2 guitarists.
  2. cool, i met that photographer @ the Spoon show in Boston a couple of weekends ago.
  3. Alien Lanes Under the Bushes, Under the Stars Isolation Drills Bee Thousand Propeller
  4. i will probably hit up chinatown for dinner beforehand...the ~12 minute walk is definitely worth it.
  5. other stuff that pollard excels at: http://tinyurl.com/y9q3dsn
  6. got confirmed for both Boston and Concord today, photo-pass wise.
  7. The National (1st on left, 3rd row). others i think i see are Chromeo and Gogol Bordello
  8. Grails really good band, esp if you don't mind vocal-less music. they've certainly stretched out on recent records. highly recommended if you like brooding instrumentals.
  9. the Capital Center for the Arts in Concord NH is a bit smaller (1300 vs 1500). these shows are gonna be outstanding.
  10. i'm still waiting to hear my confirmation for this one...i am definitely going to the Concord show as I've got a ticket, so that request is photopass-only.
  11. when was the last time? i think the 1st show i could drink @ my seat was for the Stooges in '07.
  12. so true. at the Spoon show last weekend, a kid behind me bought a copy of an LP from the opening band, The Strange Boys. Another guy (maybe he was in his early 20's) asked him if it was a '180' and the buyer had no idea what he was talking about.
  13. i liked when Elvis Costello had the big 'wheel of songs' that he would spin, and subsequently play whatever the needle landed on.
  14. but even if it is *their* money, the talkers can ruin the experience of the other spenders. last year i caught an acoustic gig from Scott Kelly, who's better known for his day job w/ Neurosis. i guess it helps to be an intimidating physical presence, as he only needed to give one sharply-worded warning to shut up the talkers. here he is w/ Shrinebuilder, from a couple of weeks ago
  15. Lou's gotten over his crankiness though...i saw a couple of Sebadoh shows back in the day where he was a petulant little brat, but i've also seen him ~5 times in the last couple of years (sebadoh, dino jr, solo) where he's consistently having fun.
  16. a couple of years ago they changed this policy, though it might vary from show to show.
  17. does anyone remember this myth? http://www.snopes.com/music/media/marker.htm
  18. well he does tour a fair bit, but he's not getting any younger either. from what i've heard it's just him solo, so expect some acoustic guitar, harmonica, maybe a banjo (i would love to hear 'for the turnstiles') and some piano or pump organ (he did a great version of 'after the goldrush' on organ a while back).
  19. you should expect awesomeness. definitely get there in time for the opener, too. Bert Jansch is a goddamn legend.
  20. ah, yep. i misread 'his last album' as 'her last album'.
  21. i think that record's the best she's ever done.
  22. Yo La Tengo can easily pull this off. the Freewheeling tour was awesome. if you are counting dead bands (like the Dead), Guided By Voices would be another one. other bands w/ deep catalogs who aren't touring on a specific record and can dig deep would include Sonic Youth, Super Furry Animals and Mogwai.
  23. why would anyone sneak backstage? really, do you think the band will be psyched about this random intrusion? i guess it's bad enough that they have to run the gauntlet from venue to stage bus each night. i gotta give credit to bands who walk the fine line between maintaining some personal space and don't piss off their rabid fanbase. i don't know how they do it.
