Kurt Vile put out two great records in '09, first _God Is Saying This To You_ and then the just-released _Childish Prodigy_. I really like what this guy is doing. other '09 records i really like include Polvo's _In Prism_ and Dinosaur Jr's _Farm_.

well it's too late to do a mail order rental, and i don't live anywhere near there so i can't help you out. however, in the future i'd highly recommend www.lensprotogo.com as they have a great inventory and really good pricing as well. i've rented a bunch of times from them and have always been more than happy.

At the moment, Electric Wizard is my favorite metal band. they are not too original, but take Sabbath's vision to its logical end. devastating.

i actually thought that this show's volume wasn't too bad. the '06 show @ the Paradise was deafening. even w/ the massive volume, they typically *sound* great, though. their sound person definitely earns their dollars. edit - J uses a ton of amps...check out his sound cave.

i would. i've been to the two ATP festivals held in New York, and both were among the greatest weekends ever.

i'm curious to see who Pavement chooses... i wonder if Malkmus will convince current jicks drummer Janet Weiss to get Sleater-Kinney back for a show.

_Furr_ from Blitzen Trapper is a great record. Also, _4_ from Dungen. _The Hawk Is Howling_ from Mogwai. James Blackshaw's _Echoes of Litany_. Melvins' _Nude With Boots_. Baby Charles put out a fantastic soul/R&B record.

the stretch from _Cream Corn_ to _Hairway to Steven_ is unassailable. great stuff.

1976 was the worst... about the only great records i can think of are _Ramones_, _Jailbreak_ and _Agents of Fortune_, and the Modern Lovers' record was recorded and should have been released in '72.

i think King's been hitting the gym. he was on fire. Teresa is back, but looked like life's been hard on her. thankfully no Kathleen so that can remain a hypothetical question.

I should be set to shoot the Oct 3rd show for Backstreets mag, but i'd prefer seeing _Darkness_ to BITUSA.

to be honest the only song off DD/LY i heard before leaving was "mountain." they started w/ some great songs (slow life, juxtaposed, rings) but there was no life, no zap to their game. i'd seen SFA once in '05 and Gruff solo in '07 and both were great, and i really enjoy most of their catalog. for whatever reason they felt flat to me.

once again the organizers of All Tomorrow's Parties put on one hell of an event in a dingy, overlooked corner of the Catskills. 3 days of entertainment overload centered around bands, but including comedians, live improvisation, trivia games, cult film screenings, performances of complete, specific recordings, live interviews with King Buzzo and Jon Spencer, a poker table helmed by Big Black/Shellac leader Steve Albini...the list goes on and on...incredible weekend. nirvana for music geeks, basically.
