Yeah, before this is Joni Mitchell live at The BBC (which was on fairly recently, and is pretty good - it's mostly music from Blue as it was recorded around the time of that session). Then after the Robyn Hitchcock show is Gillian Welch & David Rawlings in Session (I think that's what they called it in the paper), which will probably either be them playing at The Union Chapel or will be "The Revelator Collection" which came out on dvd some time back, or even better than that would be something new! BBC Four ruins Friday nights out!

Great film. This, and The Crazies, certainly show that Romero was far more than a one trick pony when it came to film making in the 1970s. Shame that the American movie industry has changed so much since then that it's probably unlikely he (nor others) will ever have a chance to make work like this ever again.

Rolling Stone's 40 Songs That Changed The World
Synthesizer Patel replied to cryptique's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yeah, in the mainstream really it was. I think if all disco music was as raw and interesting as that then I'd actually like it a whole lot more than I do. The synth on that song was a mistake orignally, I think the producer did something wrong with the two parts (or some such thing) and they ended up going inbetween each other in that double time phasing sort of effect it has. He liked it, so it evolved from then - it was originally far slower. -
Rolling Stone's 40 Songs That Changed The World
Synthesizer Patel replied to cryptique's topic in Someone Else's Song
Too fuckin' right. Chuck Berry, and Fats Domino (who is sadly not on the list), totally tore up the rules of song lyrics and lyrical structure for 'mainstream' music. It's not the list I would quite write, but all the songs on there are pretty important to the development of music, for good or worse (except U2, but I never saw the point in them, so I am biased). -

It's not such a bad song, but the production/arrangment/instrument sounds/whatever you want to call it is shockingly bad - the picture that goes with that link really somes up Paul McCartney's musical career today to me - it ain't looking too good.

Her father is famous in the UK, so she would have had a reasonable idea of what fame would be like prior to all this. My view on her is that she is pretty much complete rubbish. But, I actually like the fact that she is bored of the songs and wants to make a new album rather than continue performing music she is tired of, maybe the next one I'll like.

Cool. I guess I'll have to buy that one too then. Yeah, the original cd does suck quite a bit - it's incredibly flat, but I wasn't sure if that was part of the charm of the album (especially given the back story of the making) or just a fault of the tranfer to cd. NP>

They look a bit like the sort of thing Pete Fowler does, only not quite as good. I would probably steal them through someone's opened window, but I doubt I'd fork out to buy them myself though.

What does it sound like compared to the old CD version? (If you've heard it of course). I'm in two minds about buying that one, even though I have purchased the Life & Fresh remasters (because I never had Life on cd before, and my old cd version of Fresh is a different mix than the official one). This just keeps getting better and better - I think it's the change in the weather.

I have the first season on region 1 which doesn't contain the pilot episode (which I then had to buy from Singapore or somewhere), and I was pissed that it got released soon afterwards in the UK - but now I am happy it's worth some money! I might sell it and buy a UK one. I haven't even seen the second season before, but I know who the killer is (although I am sure that won't spoil the thing in the long run).

The deal there is it's not as good as the other two. It's from the early 80's (I think a few tracks were recorded in the late 70's too). I wouldn't recommend anyone buying it unless they really have to have everything by the man, and then they should get From the Bottom of An Old Grandfather Clock first - which is a collection of demos and outtakes from his career. If people are looking for a couple of lost 1970's folk/rock bands and artists to check out, they should see if they can find Meic Stevens album Outlander (he is from Wales) - amazon has it, but it looks a bit expensive, there is a

I can remember asking for, and being given, "So" by Peter Gabriel at christmas when I was six - I am sure that was due to the video for Sledgehammer. But, I think the first cassette i actually bought myself (not record, or cd - yeah, i was cheap) was "Bullet From A Gun" by Derek B - I used to go to my friends garage and play it whilst learning karate moves on his brothers punchbag. First gig was Iron Maiden at Wembley Arena. "Rock on Tommy!"

I don't think Grindhouse is out in the UK until June, but I've always had the suspicion that Planet Terror won't match up to Death Proof. It's kind of a big shame that these people have to make this kind of film really anyway though. It's the sort of stuff that young directors should be making on tiny money, and creating their own little tricks and styles through trying to balance their dreams of a film with the reality of the budget (and not just the directors, but the crew too should be hungry young people looking to develop and learn on the job). By the time these directors are carrying Tar

Yes, it's good stuff. Buy it.

What do you think of that album? It's bloody hard work, some of it.
-
I still haven't heard that one yet. I liked their first album, and then didn't like their second. I guess I should give this one a try.

It's leaked. It's out on Monday, though. It's really good; if you like her, that is.
