just finishing up then i'm moving onto the two Lonely, Dear albums Rich gave me, which I've listened to and like a lot - cheers mate
-
Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief or Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding Those two albums opened the door to a huge amount of music for me, and I couldn't have done without either.

then

Fats Domino Chuck Berry Bob Dylan All have a way with vocal phrasing. Oh, and everyone from The Band, minus Garth and Robbie and everyone from The Beach Boys (including Dennis)

Yeah, actually I'm not overly keen on Trout Fishing In America - it's got some great passages, but the nature of it makes it a little bit hit and miss. I actually like The Hawkline Monster (which really is dying to be made into a film), or A Conferdate General From Big Sur, more. Did people ever read Richard Brautigan??
-
The Coral Island by R. M. Ballantyne (the inspiration for Lord of The Flies) Moonfleet by John Meade Falkner The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allen Poe (As you can see I really like adventure yarns either on the sea or involving small boys ) Those kinds of books are great for travelling. Otherwise try Crome Yellow by Aldus Huxley, or anything by Richard Brautigan.

Yeah, I didn't live through it at all. I love seeing the old footage - that's the bit that interests me, it's the modern day looks back at that stuff that I'm not so keen on. It's more to do with the fact that I just kind of end up saying to myself - "just play the footage" rather than talk about it, cos the music speaks for itself. Oh, and my name isn't actually Hank (that was just a silly name I came up with - Big-Bank Hank was a member of the sugarhill gang) - it's Richard, but you can call me Hank if you want. I like it. I just thought I'd better set you straight.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. I've got Rust Never Sleeps and Heart Of Gold, so I don't think I'll bother with this. I don't mind talking heads too much, but it kind of depends on what they are talking about - watching old people talking about someone elses life of 40 years ago through the unflattering lense of a digital camera has a limited shelf life for me, but if they talk about things more recent it seems to be ok. Don't ask me why.

I wonder what on earth this actually is. Do you actually think there will be music on it, or just talking heads and that kind of stuff?

Band looking for feedback on songs
Synthesizer Patel replied to henniganmusic's topic in Someone Else's Song
I think if the music is good, or at least making an effort, then it should get a good/fair response - young people/bands need to get heard somehow. It's a bit annoying that someone comes along just to promote their music, then pisses off again, but if I actually heard something good then it's ok with me. I still can't get over the fact that there is a song called "The Goat", let alone what it sounds like. -
That's cool, give me a minute (well a few minutes) to upload it. I did have it up on oink along with the EP (which is probably where you got it from), but someone warned me to take the album down because the bitrate wasn't high enough, and so I did - not that I've ever seen anyone else upload it (stupid rule that when it's a rare album).

The track "The Goat" seemed to offer alot with the title, but the actual song was a long long way from what i was expecting. Fuck man, the delay work on the vocals was a touch of comedy genius. Do they have Butlins Holiday camps in America? I thought it was going to be a bedroom recording type thing, but to think that you wasted good studio time on those songs is shameful. If anyone is after a cheap laugh today then check out "The Goat" - it's killer diller. -
Becky Stark - the lead singer - has another album, but it's a self-released effort (so impossible to find) and without the band. I think you might think it's a little too twee, but I can upload it to yousendit if you want it. It's nowhere near as good as the EP, though. They signed to rough trade, I think, recently and have a new album out in April or May. Great pictures, by the way. It's a shame they didn't play some headline dates.

Hey! Finally Lavender Diamond's getting some attention. Did you see them supporting the Decemberists or something? NP.

That ain't bland. You seen the sharp outfits those Nazi boys wore? And that wacky goose-marching and weird wave were anything but bland. All joking aside, I'm glad that everyone is safe and well. And obviously that appalling waste of money used for that fake war on terror, which should have been used for the real thing, really sickens me the most. Those bastard advertisers should pay back in full, damn it! One thing; do you think that now the police will try and set up some kind of ongoing conversation with these advertising companies (and give them a bit of leeway for the good of stopping

I got that one really quickly. I'm taking a rest on 27 right for now, but I found once I got 1 from a certain view point it allowed me to come up with a good couple more using the same theme - so it's actually quite easy. I guess a lot of them are very British though, so that might be why I am finding it fairly easy. The genius to idiot scale is stupid, but then only an idiot would have come up with that scale, and what do they know about genius?

No, but I'd buy some Rag n Bone from Wilfred Bramble though. (he's very clean)

um .... well, it's andrew bird innit! what more needs to be said.

Oh, I've got that. Didn't know that was the cover. Yeah, it's a great album.

2 cool covers in a row. What are they, and what do they sound like?
