My version has a blue cardboard outer cover and then the main slipcase art is cream. I remember that, on the other versions, if the outer cardboard was cream then the inside art was blue - never seen the white one so who knows what craziness that hides behind it. I hate cardboard outercases, by the way. Nearly as much as I hate the see-through cd holders - they just look bad to me (even with some kind of picture behind them), don't know quite why.

rehearsals of/for what? it's hard to tell from the track names. i should just download one and find out i guess, but . . . -
Just to say that The Daily Mail is one of the worst newspapers in Britain. I saw the interview on BBC's Newsnight last night and in the Frost interview he was answering the question in a way that if he were to accept that the war was a disaster, not that he did accept that it was a disaster. It is a bit different. He's far too up himself to ever admit it was a mistake, baring in mind that he did previously say that God gave him guidance in his decision to go to war (whether he meant God spoke to him, I don't think that's what he meant, but still when you've prayed to God and he's come back to

I just noticed Pitchfork gave this reissue 9.0, which is good to see it's getting recognised at last, or should do anyway, with that kind of score. -

I missed that. I've had enough of Jools Holland I think, I've given it more chances than it deserves already. It does feel like an old fashioned album, I think that's probably why I like it actually. -

I really like this album. Pulp never really clicked with me much, but this is a good release. What do you think? -

A bit of Jimmy Webb for a dull, dark, autumn afternoon. then... -
In no great order, 01. Jemima Surrender - The Band (The Band) 02. I'll Be Your Baby Tonight - John Wesley Harding (Bob Dylan) 03. Handshake Drugs - A Ghost Is Born (Wilco) 04. The Sound Of Life Today - Guerilla (Super Furry Animals), a cheat as it's only a very short instrumental interlude 05. Medley: The Lark In The Morning/Rakish Paddy/Foxhunter's Jig/Toss The Feather - Liege & Lief (Fairport Convention) 06. Holloway Jail - Muswell Hillbillies (The Kinks) 07. God's Song (That's Why I Love Mankind) - Sail Away (Randy Newman) 08. Steamboat - Holland (The Beach Boys) 09. Tweedle Dee &

Trouble is, I don't really like his music that much (it's alright, but he's not in my favourite list; put it that way), and the fact that they are christmas songs may mean they will have a really short shelf life, but that packaging (just like a puppy) is clearly not just for christmas. NP. sister winter - sufjan stevens (downloaded from asthmatic kitty records to help me decide if i want the boxset or not) EDIT: BY THE WAY, IT'S ONLY -

I think, like Solace said, her voice is a little more polished and softer than the first album (but I did actually like that one too mind). The music and the scope of the songs is really the biggest difference. To be honest, it's hard to say whether you'll like it or not, but I do recommend at least hearing it, cos you never know ... -

I know, I do tend to latch onto an album and play it a lot. This one has certainly knocked Midlake from cd player for a while, at least. I'll be interested to hear what you think. -

I can't guarantee you'll like it (did you like her first album? - not that it's anything too much like her first album), but if you do, you'll like it a lot. Most people do seem to either hate it or love it. -

What do you mean, you don't understand what I am talking about? I thought it was pretty clear. Let me explain it this way: The video could be Johnny Cash singing the song to all the people that appear on the screen (denouncing them for the crimes they've made to popular culture). That would have been a good video (apart from a few of the people who shouldn't have been there - especially Brian Wilson, a younger Keith Richards and maybe one or two others). What the video was actually about was all those people on the screen singing the song as one voice and denouncing what they see as

I took the video to mean that: One day all those people would have to pay for the crimes they've done. I doubt that was what it was meant to be about (it was more likely about those people telling other people that one day those other people would have to pay for the crimes they've done), but, if it was, then I liked it, but obviously it wasn't, so I don't. Brian Wilson dancing was pretty special, they should have just looped that for the whole song.

Then I think it's going to be back to Joanna Newsom again -
Yeah, I was just about to say that. I think the first couple of Parker albums sound like the first couple of Bruce Springsteen albums to some extent. Also, the fact that The Rumour were once Brinsley Schwarz (Nick Lowe's band) and Nick Lowe was very important in Costello's early career, that is were the similar sound comes from.

I bet you wouldn't say that to her face! Those John & Beverley Martyn albums remind me a fair bit of the Richard & Linda Thompson albums, although not quite the same sound as such, but, instead, the fact that they take turns at leading the songs - which makes it for a nice variation across the albums. Still waiting for a hard copy to arrive, but the mp3's will do fine for now. Anyone got a copy yet? The packaging is supposed to be very good, apparently.
