  1. You were one space and a capital out - that's all! They're certainly heavier than Kings Of Leon, without any oo the twang that they sometimes have, but I'd still recommend them to a KOL fan - it's all fairly similar to me at the end of the day. Yeah, they do have a Stooges feel too, and a bit of Zeppelin at times.
  2. Yeah, it's actually Rose Hill Drive though. They are pretty straight ahead rock n' roll - if you like Kings Of Leon, you'll like them.
  3. How old are Black Mountain? They are straight ahead rock n' roll, and better than The Kings Of Leon.
  4. How do you mean? If you mean it brings a tear to your eye in places, I'd definately agree, but apart from the MS I doubt he'd have wanted to live his life any other way even if he had to live from hand to mouth most of the time. I'd like to think that he'd got more money in his life time, he'd have just spent it on crazy ventures like The Passing Show anyway. One of the most interesting things was that he only had 1 lot of tapes for his mobile studio, so he just used to wipe them after he'd mastered each album - yes, it's a shit for anyone wanting to think about remastering his stuff, but it's
  5. They actually showed it on BBC2 as well recently. It's a very good documentary, didn't know it was only the short version of it though. When they put on BBC4, they also showed an hour show of his live performances, which was even better than the documentary. It's fairly clear from all this where the spirit of The Faces lay, and it certainly wasn't with Rod Stewart.
  6. Yeah, Menswear were pretty shoddy. Perhaps it was the lead singer from Gene's hair that put me off slightly. These Animal Men kind of had punky guitars and music, but the lead singer sounded like my little sister could beat him up and make him cry.
  7. I remember Gene, but I cannot for the life of me remember a song of theirs. I think I put them in the Menswear category and forgot about them. They were just a little bit too fey for my tastes, perhaps - although I did like These Animal Men for some reason.
  8. I was going to ask the other day if anyone else liked the single. I thought it was really good - especially the chorus. I don't think I'd go out and buy the album, but I wouldn't turn this sort of stuff off when it comes on the radio. For anyone who wants to hear/see the single - Rehab, check it out here That Aguilera golem could take a few lessons on how to do this sort of thing. NP.
  9. Cheers. Yeah, I am pretty fond of it too. I think i'll keep this one for a while - I keep changing cos I am never happy with what I choose
  10. Yeah, I know. I don't know if Dylan copied this (or rather whoever made the cover for Desire) or not, but you never know. This album was 1970 and Desire was 1975 so it's a big gap if he wanted to pay homage for whatever reason. NP.
  11. That's cool. Costello's version is the famous one, and certainly the better version, but I thought I should point it out to you. Actually though, Costello only really provides the vocals as even that version is credited to 'Nick Lowe and His Sound' I think. So much info about one song!
  12. I don't want to be a smart arse, but it's actually a Nick Lowe song. He recorded it in his band Brinsley Schwarz some time before Costello covered it (because Lowe was producing his album). I vote for Debris by Ronnie Lane
  13. They were on Newsnight last night, talking and playing a little bit. Paul Simonon looked like he'd been in a fight or something a while back - his nose was bruised and both his eyes looked like they were recently black. I am interested to hear a full album too.
  14. It's definately worth getting. I think, like it said in the article, it's got a lot of similarities to Gene Clark's No Other, but a lot lighter and more enjoyable and playful than that, in my eyes. Any album, though, with those session players (Hal Blaine, James Burton etc) and a drug addled hippie is going to be a fun listening experience.
  15. Do you think he actually owns the rights to that? I don't know for certain, but I very much doubt it myself. The rights would be owned by the television station it was broadcast on. I really hope you're right about him cashing in. Because he's still got a shit load of unreleased music that he clearly does own the rights to, that he's not felt the need to release yet to cash in on. I wouldn't mind hearing that stuff some time soon.
  16. Amazon finally got around to send me this a month after they should have done. The bonus tracks on it are great, and the sound is a million times better than the mp3's I previously had. It was only reading about it in Uncut this month that alerted me to it being released again - definately a lost classic.
  17. Summerteeth would be exactly 1 million percent better if Tweedy sang "Via" instead of "Veea" in the song Via Chicago. I know that's how the Americas say it, but I find myself forever correcting him or emphasizing the e's even more, Alan Partridge style - it really ruins the song for me. Although this might sound like a joke - trust me, it comes from a very real place. Oh, and I don't like the production, but I think it's the best sounding over produced album I can think of. Most of the songs are so good I can still happily listen to it without the production becoming too much of an issue.
  18. Here's a few tracks for you: handsome family sampler 1 The Sad Milkman 2 No One Fell Asleep Alone 3 All The TV's In Town 4 Up Falling Rock Hill 5 Peace In The Valley Once Again Sorry they are only from two of their albums (In The Air & Twilight - they are probably the best two albums anyway though), but that's all I have on my computer at the moment.
  19. I predict this thread will now take a turn for the worse. The White Album Physical Graffiti Melon Collie And The Infinite Sadness
  20. Won't that cause an earthquake in China or something?
