  1. That post about "Dick's Jams" got me to check out the 1969-08-30 and 1969-11-02 shows.
  2. I think someone talks about that guy in the Taper's book. The real shame is the formats they used - VHS, cassette, and DAT. Of course, that is what was how it was at the time. I would have made copies on reel to reel tape - and then turned the original tapes over to the band. Of course, by that time reel to reel machines were no longer common. And you can't walk around with one if you want to listen to music.
  3. I have not read that yet. I take it he got access from someone who bought the tapes at the auction. There is a long story about all of that in the Taper's book.
  4. The one about Dick Latava is sad. Denial really screwed that band. The one about acoustic shows is great. I rather like it when Bob sang Dire Wolf.
  5. Waging Heavy Peace October 2nd, 2012
  6. I grabbed that Smile back recently. I have always appreciated Priore’s enthusiasm, but I don’t agree with the way he separates Brian from the rest of the band. It took all those voices to sing what Brian created. At least that is the way I look at it. That passage towards the end where Brian calls Van Dyke out of the blue and asks him about the lyrics is something else. With all this Beach Boys talk going on, I recently realized I have been listening to the band for about 36 years now.
  7. A good bit of that information is not exactly right. And - if one gets into the personal lives of musicians, you are always going to find nasty things.
  8. I read about this somewhere recently. I think it was as an article I found at Expecting Rain.
  9. I recall reading somewhere once that Mickey described what he and Billy did as "chasing air" or something like that. I often think of that when I am listening to The Eleven. I am listening to the 6/21/1969 show - which made me think of his quote. The drumming is just spectacular.
  10. I think they are pretty much playing the same songs every night. I would go to all the shows I could, if I had the time and bread.
  11. The song by Dennis is called Forever. It's on the Sunflower album.
  12. I really like the Dark Star from the 2/13 show. Jerry's tone is just great.
  13. I'm listening to 2/13/1970 and reading some stuff at Dead Essays. There is quite a long article there about Bob and Pigpen's dismissal from the band.
  14. Did Heath Ledger Base His Joker On Tom Waits?
  15. They need some more photos of Betty. When I was there back in the 1990s, there were NO PHOTOGRAPHS signs all over the place. I guess whoever took those got away with it due to the fact they were working for a news channel.
  16. Speaking of the Nash Strat, Europe '72: Jahrhundert Halle, Frankfurt, West Germany is streaming at dead.net.
  17. That would be cool to see. They've had those other guitars for a while now.
  18. This thread has suddenly become full of hodads and gremmies.
  19. I think there is suppose to be some sort of theme or concept running through the album.
  20. I respect the guy, I just don't get his music.
  21. Cary Hudson - Mississippi Moon Cary has various deals going on where you can get the new cd, and other cds together for a great price. Plus, he will sign the new one.
  22. New song - That's Why God Made The Radio. Setlist from last night's show in Arizona:
  23. I think for me it's about the same as those who don't get the Grateful Dead. I just don't see the appeal of this guy's music. I was recently watching a video of a song from Blunderbuss and my first thought was this guy has has been listening to Tanx (T.Rex album). I am sure he has talent and abilities that I will never have, but he does nothing for me. I think I actually own White Blood Cells, but I could never really get into the songs/music. I do like some of what I have read about him - his efforts with regards to mastering music and things of that nature.
