Love the chaotic soloing style. Some 80's examples are Vernon Reid on Living Colour's "Cult of Personality" and Slash on G'n'R's "Paradise City". Mr. Quine's work was also excellent with Matthew Sweet. Love it.

Same here. The 2003 tour seem to be the tightest shows to me out of all the tour shows I've heard. I saw this tour in Philly, and, man, was that a great show, and the subsequent CD proved it wasn't just the experience that makes it stand out for me.

Bah ha ha!!!!! I would say this is a fairly civil place compared to some portions of the interwebs. That said, it's rare to just have a conversation (here or elsewhere) where there is a respectable back and forth. I'd say this is pretty good for a band message board. New record? Yeah...I'm looking forward to it. I don't think SBS or W(TA) are the letdowns that many here make them out to be, but that's what they think, and no one's right. The first 8 songs of SBS tie together quite nicely to me. After hearing Jeff talk about, I'm even more pumped for it. It sounds like it may be the two

Bands you wish that you had seen, but missed the chance

Elvis Presley I was two when my parents went to see him at the Pontiac Silverdome. Three years later, when I was already an Elvis fan and he was dead, I was ticked that they didn't take me! As if I would have remembered... I'd echo most of the bands here. Nirvana especially. The closest I came to a Dead show was Cleveland in '92. Why I didn't go I'll never know. -
Why is there such disappointment over Wilco(The Album)?

I like all the albums. I don't think W(TA) is terrible, or that SBS is boring. But... ...like all songwriters, Mr. Tweedy needs an editor, a springboard, whatever you want to call it. Bennett was a check and balance through YHF. Perhaps Jeff had something to prove of AGIB (because of Jay's exit), which provided an accountability on the songwriting and production. Like a lot of great songwriters who achieve a certain status, they create a band, and indeed a life, where there is no one left to tell them "no". I think the more mainstream, almost syrupy songwriting of "I'll Fight" and "You an -
Yes! Great work. Then again, I really dig Mike Watt.

I dig it. "One Wing" is a masterpiece, and "Country Disappeared" recalls Being There. I think, if anything, it's not as varied as the other albums, and there really isn't anything ragged: it's all very "produced". Not a bad thing, I suppose, but that might explain the disdain for it. -

That there's boring guitar noodling instead of vital music being made. I don't share that opinion, by the way. I like SBS, and Mr. Cline. -
I'd like to see a 2 disc set like Pearl Jam's "Lost Dogs", which included unreleased material.

Bands like The 77s and Daniel Amos. Both bands are "Christian" bands, but are excellent, a couple of the top bands I've ever heard, in any genre. Seriously, check 'em out. The leaders of these two bands also have an Americana/Rock band called The Lost Dogs. If you like "Being There", you'll probably like these guys, too. Old blues artists like Rev. Gary Davis and Blind Willie Johnson. I'll second/third/fourth "Slow Train Coming", The Staples Singers & "Seven Swans". John Davis (of 90's powerpop group Superdrag) has put a couple of great solo records: "John Davis" and "Arigato!" Mik

As a minister, Wilco fan and intellectual, I get it: I understand atheism, I understand faith. I choose faith, but that doesn't mean I'm a blithering idiot. My thing with all of this discussion is that, even the best-informed and intelligent minds on all sides have to admit that we don't really know everything, right? If history tells us anything, it tells us that schools of thought come and go, ebb and flow. Is the existence of a "creator" far more absurd than a "big bang"? To some, yes. Personally, I don't think so. Either way is a guess, although the former is grounded in faith, the latt

Tell Tale Signs! Great record. Live version of "Cold Irons Bound" on disc 3 should have been on one of the first two discs. I wish there were more songs from the "As Good As I Been To You/World Gone Wrong" sessions. I love those records.

He's in G'n'R only for the paycheck, right? I like 'em, and I even liked some of the new stuff, but Mr. Stinson's way above all that Axl-related drama. A solo album would be most welcome. Keep Axl far away from it!

He's definitely low-key. But a solid player. I wouldn't compare him with Nels, as Pat is closer to being his "replacement": plays mostly keys with occasional guitar.

Mike Watt has had a great impact on my bass playing style. I wore out his first solo record, as well fIREHOSE (the lack of a "u" is very important!) discs and the second Porno for Pyros record, basically just to hear his playing. It's bludgeoning and melodic all at the same time. Cline and Watt should form a serious band, not just a side project.

After watching "Man in the Sand", and then cranking my weekly listen of AGIB, I realized that Mr. Bach gets lost in the discussions about Jay Bennett. Since he's a low key guy, I don't really see much said about him. He's a great player, and was a great fit for Wilco. His piano is all over AGIB, as much as Jeff's guitar. Very cool. He quit because he went back to theater or something? I can't remember. I won't say he's underrated, but he deserves more credit, especially for his work on this record.

I did wonder about the ticket prices. I paid $30 to see Wilco in Iowa City last year, and thought that was about right. I also think ticket prices in general are very inflated. So, I'm surprised to see a $45 solo Tweedy ticket. But, it is what it is. If people don't like it, they don't have to go. I would also be surprised to find out that it was Jeff's doing somehow. He's not really a greedy guy. Either way, I'm still wishing there is more to this than east coast dates!

More dates to come? Nashville date? I hope so!

Songs not good enough for the album they are on
MarkyMark77 replied to Lammycat's topic in Someone Else's Song
Of course. I must be a moron if I don't like what you like. I'm not one of those people that think she's talentless, I just don't think it's great material, and the juxtaposition of their two styles just doesn't work for me. -
Clearly, it must be Michael J. Fox.
