Happy birthday, VC!

Another vote for SOS here, ABBA's finest moment as far as I'm concerned. Take a Chance on Me would be my runner up.

What order do you put Wes Anderson's films in?

This looks sweet. Also... My list: 1. The Life Aquatic 2. The Royal Tenenbaums 3. Rushmore 4. Bottle Rocket 5. The Fantastic Mr. Fox 6. Darjeeling Limited -
Yes! (Well, actually I like the slightly mellower ripping solos that Jeff did on the album)

I have a site on virb.com that I like, I probably will keep it around regardless. Facebook and Bandcamp are fine, but having a clean and centralized location for stuff is what I prefer.

They will be nominated for some kind of Grammy award, but really the awards are pretty irrelevant.

VC'ers Bands on You Tube

From a show we played on Sunday night. I am the one on the right. -
I am pleased with this.

I realize YHF is a serious studio album, but ironically because of how carefully crafted it is it sounds less produced to me, and W(TA) and SBS are both more "live" albums, but the production on them sounds a little too compressed and clean to my ears. Summerteeth has really solid writing/music but again the production is a little lacking. I much prefer AGIB's sound when it comes to a "live" album.

1. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 2. Summerteeth 3. Being There 4. A Ghost is Born 5. AM 6. Sky Blue Sky 7. Wilco (the Album)

Brilliance. Really I think both Sky Blue Sky suffered from some over-production and a lack of risk-taking. There are some good moments on both but those two albums definitely rank at the bottom of Wilco's catalog for me.

Adult Contemporary...wait, no. Post-Domestic? Rockadaddy?

Neat find, definitely makes sense in the context of the words. Though I'm sure there is some imaginative play with those images as well in the words of the song itself.

Hey VC people, I know I am on here infrequently of late, but I promise I still love you all. And I have a new album coming out. It's all finished up and short of hand printing the covers and getting those together it is ready for your listening enjoyment and consumption. You can check it out here: The Noble Octopus The latest one is "Like an Island," 2008's "The Noble Octopus" is my older disc. You can listen to any of the tracks there, download 2 from the new one for free, and any of the old ones. I welcome your comments, and if you are interested please do pick up a copy. They are

Glad to see Wilco on the list, but they really should have beat out the Eagles, I mean come on. Hotel Arizona > Hotel California.
-
This is correct.

I think the new Destroyer album is definitely my favorite from this year so far. Optimistic about the new Wilco record. Low's C'Mon is solid and "Witches" might be one of the best songs this year so far. Need to pick up Bon Iver. Both Decemberists and Iron and Wine records were solid, not amazing, but glad to see they can both still put out things that I enjoy.

I will buy this record, but I sure hope it sounds less comfortable than the last two.
-
Fragile and Close to the Edge are fantastic records, but I'll take '80's King Crimson over '80's Yes.

I was pretty stoked about this show, ignoring the mayor's daughter issues, "In A Future Age" & "Mountain Bed" were awesome to hear, "So Much Wine" was perfect for the moment (and an awesome song to boot), and I am always happy to hear "Laminated Cat/Not For the Season." Plus I had seats right in the middle of the front row, so had a great view. The opening band Snowblink was actually better than I expected, nothing phenomenal, but pretty enjoyable set.

Same here. In Rainbows was fantastic, so I'm looking forward to this, but hard to say what to expect.

Why is there such disappointment over Wilco(The Album)?
deepseacatfish replied to realrival's topic in Just A Fan
Wilco (The Album) and Sky Blue Sky just sound to comfortable to my ears. It's not that the songwriting is bad exactly, and the musicianship is solid...but (to my ears) neither album has the necessary friction to really make the jump from listenable to really inspired. There are moments, for sure, on each album that I can really get into and Jeff and the band seem really happy with what they're doing. As I've mentioned before, I think they just need to challenge themselves a little more, try something uncomfortable, and create that tension in what they're doing. You don't have to be unhappy -
There first EP and record are both really solid, I'm definitely looking forward to this one. Truly classic songwriting and harmonies.
