I'm not as familiar with the MMJ catalogue, but I love At Dawn, and have had a hard time warming up to Circuital.

I was fortunate to be in the room on any number of such occasions. Your explanation, or lack of an explanation for the phenomenon, is spot on.

I purchased one show in flac, converted to mp3 using Media Monkey and had no trouble getting it onto my iPod. Can't get the artwork as album cover though.

One Wing and BBN both were performed this week in Europe. August 11 and August 14.

If you ask anyone in Fenway other than me, you'd probably get a response along the lines of "awesome." For me, it was more of the same that I wrote about, the reasons I stopped going to see Springsteen. In a nutshell, the sound absolutely sucks in Fenway unless you are right down front, which we weren't. So not being able to hear the full band instrumentation and not being able to see the players (the video screen focused on Bruce 99.9% of the time) takes away a lot of the concert experience for me. Second, I think the songbook has been diluted over the years. After opening with Promised

Don't know if I agree that The Band would be the greatest of them all, but agree that they belong in the group, and that Wilco belongs right there with them, the Dead and (I would say) Neal/Crazy Horse. And if we were talking about individual songwriters, Tweedy belongs in the group of the greatest of them all. File that under "But we all knew this already..."

Springsteen, Fenway Park. Not a show I want to see, but my wife wanted to go so there I'll go. I stopped seeing Springsteen several years ago after having become totally bored at his last night of a long run at the Fleet Center. After many many shows, his music stopped speaking to me. (And I don't particularly care for the crowd, but that's another story). Maybe I'll be surprised tonight (but I'm doubtful).

I'm hoping for something from the "Evening With" tour in 2010. "Something" being specifically the Boston Orpheum show. One of the top 5 shows of my entire life. .

I was out and didn't see it. But I was able to be front and center for both Boston shows this week, and what a turnaround from those train wreck shows at the Orpheum last November. Gregg was in fine form, and the band smoked.

Well, I just saw them in Hartford with the Lee Renaldo Band opening. They are not "young", but they were certainly not a snoozefest. And last time through CA they had White Denim opening. That's about as much of a "good, young, energetic up and coming band" as you can get.

17 years today. Hard to fathom.

night 2 of An Evening With the Allman Brothers in Boston. Last night was a barnburner. After last November's shows at the Orpheum, I didn't think Gregg would survive to this point, let alone perform. I am still stunned by how great he was last night in juxtaposition. He didn't miss a beat and the band just tore it up. Anytime I get to see Derek and Warren on the same stage, in front of that rhythm section no less, it is something to behold.

English Settlement was always my favorite XTC. And I agree, at least one of the most underrated bands. Maybe because they stopped performing live so early on (or did they just never perform live, I can't recall at this point).

The acoustics in that room were really subpar, I would be surprised if this show gets done. Now the next night at The Bushnell was a different story entirely...

So, did any one or two of the summer shows stand out above the rest for you?

The concepts advanced here that Wilco is a declining band, that TWL is a forgettable album, and that the band basically stinks now, are so unfathomable to me that I almost think they are being advanced as a farce. I know they are not, and by saying that I don't mean to question anyone's sincerely held beliefs, but just to show how 180 degrees I am from those views. I don't consider myself of a "new generation" of Wilco fans. I was listening to Uncle Tupelo, missed A.M. but caught on to Wilco with Being There (which remains one of my all time favorite albums of any band's). I don't disagree

It took me no more than 10 seconds into that video trailer tease for Art of Almost to snap my head around and exclaim "holy s___!"

I'm not buying the "formerly great" reference. Not to my ears.

I have no hammer and nails on my keyboard, but really? "a mess of an album"? Hard for me to fathom, but it is what it is.
