The Radiators, at Tipitina's Heading to New Orleans today for JazzFest. Other than Jason Isbell and Beck on Friday, don't know who I'll be seeing at the Fairgrounds during the day. But the nights are set: Radiators tonight Daze Between Band (Eric Krasno, Dave Schools, Duane Trucks, Marcus King) at the Howlin Wolf on Thursday Gov't Mule at the Saenger on Friday JRAD on Saturday and hopefully Sonny Landreth and Tab Benoit at the Rock n Bowl on Sunday (if I'm still standing)

I have a hard time concluding what it the "best" anything. But R.E.M. is certainly in the discussion, and makes my list of "greatest" American bands. Which may be a list of only 2 or 3. I was a young lawyer working in downtown Boston when I first heard Radio Free Europe on the BC college radio station. Within a few days I went over to the Harvard Coop record store at 1 Federal Street (I was a frequent shopper there) and picked up Murmur. Still remember bringing it back to the office and another associate asked who they were and all I had to say was "Radio Free Europe" and he knew. I was hook

Dave's Picks Vol. 26 announced as Alburquerque, 11-17-71. Never heard it but I'll never complain about a late '71 show. Or any '71 show for that matter.

Ha! Hilarious! I grew up an Islanders fan. We lived in Merrick, about 15 minutes away from the brand new Coliseum. I was in jr. high when they started ('71-72 season?) and my dad and an uncle got seasons tickets. Years of lousy teams. I had moved to Boston in September '79, but was home in Merrick when they won that first cup in '80.
