  1. Definitely some sloppy unpracticed parts, but still really like the performance. Nice vibe. Liked it enough to snatch a ticket for this Thursday.
  2. Here too. That was a huge favorite in my crowd when we were in h.s. I still have my vomit swirl colored vinyl. These days I mostly listen to the 2006 "Definitive Collection" cd. I always try to catch him when he's in the neighborhood, but it's been a few years now.
  3. One of the marks of a great songwriter and lyricist: approach with new eyes and ears and new things get revealed. Jeff Tweedy.
  4. Without any thought, my first thought is Daltry, just for the howl on Won't Get Fooled Again.
  5. ^^ Agree. My interest in JA studio albums stopped with Bark. Although I wasn't particularly fond of the lineup, replacing Spencer with Johnny Barbata and including Papa John (who I loved in HT) Thirty Seconds has some great live tracks, especially what we considered as the Hot Tuna songs Feel So Good and Trial By Fire. Also, we had some memorable nights with the cover. I seem to remember winged toasters flying around my room.
  6. Have you listened to Bless Its Pointed Little Head??? In my crowd that is one of the all time great live albums. Jaw dropping. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=bless+its+pointed+little+head+full+album&view=detail&mid=CD5C673191A63ED7854DCD5C673191A63ED7854D&FORM=VIRE
  7. I've been seeing Hot Tuna religiously since 1973. I can't wait for this book. Jorma is such a thoughtful and interesting guy. Besides being one of my favorite guitar players.
  8. Shelby Lynne. Not familiar with her but our friends got us tickets and I'm up for it.
  9. You must be referring to my comment, which was that the Binghamton Jack Straw is my personal favorite version. Not the best ever. I couldn’t say any version of any song is best ever, but I have a few personal favorite versions, and this is my Jack Straw favorite. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. The mailman just brought me Dave’s #25, the incredible Binghamton 11-6-77. I’ve had this show in one form or another forever. Always one of my favorite first sets, and my absolute favorite Jack Straw. I’m sure everyone here has spent time with this show. So glad to have it with the full HDCD Rhino treatment. Sounds great. 11. Great. I've never seen them. Should be fun.
  12. I'm definitely underwhelmed with the second weekend lineup. Definitely want to see Beck and Isbell, hope they're not playing at the same time. The Radiators should be closing things out Sunday on Gentilly. The Thursday lineup offers nothing for me, other than just being at the Fairgrounds. It may have to take a really nice weather day to get me there. As for the Decemberists, the talk on the JazzFest forum is that they were pissed they got put on the Fais Do Do stage last time they were there. Take that with however many grains of salt you think is appropriate!
  13. I’m just catching up on this topic. Where and when was that photo taken? Seems like you folks know but aren’t saying
  14. Nice! If you're there second weekend I'll keep my eyes on the grids.
  15. Nice. I've missed this show the last couple of years. In NYC this weekend, but I would have probably stayed home for the Pats game anyway.
  16. Wasn’t there for Elton. The most crowded Saturday on Acura I saw was Fleetwood Mac. I stayed the hell away and put myself somewhere else. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. I've been 5 times in the last 7 years. We always go second weekend and book our plans before they announce the lineup. It never matters, there's always fantastic music playing on some stage or other whether I've heard of them or not. As to crowds, I find that depends on who's headlining the Acura stage. Going second weekend it's never been crowded on Thursday, and really not too bad on Friday. Saturday can be overly crowded, but most of the crowds will be at Acura for the headliners. But yes, it will be crowded throughout the Fairgrounds on a nice Saturday with a major headliner. But not enoug
  18. Yes, a single admission to the fairgrounds each day (or you can get packages). The Fest runs from 11:00 -7:00 each day with about 12 stages/tents running simultaneously. Food is extra of course, but this is not your usual racetrack food. As you walk around you will hear people talking about their food strategy for the day. Everything in the theaters and clubs at night (and wee hours of the morning) are an individual admission basis. A lot of the artists playing at night aren't playing the Festival, and there are endless configurations of musicians for random one-off shows and jam sessions.
  19. Any VC'ers going? After having missed last year, I'm making a return for second weekend as usual. JazzFest is so much fun for music fans of all persuasions. And foodies too. If anyone's on the fence about going, I would absolutely encourage you to take the plunge. The night grids are starting to populate. http://www.jazzfestgrids.com/second_weekend/ Trey's playing three nights during the first weekend. Also, some very early and limited info for the Festival from Pollstar. https://www.pollstar.com/festival-instance-detail/new-orleans-jazz-heritage-festival-6009
