I don't remember much about the Ramones show. I can picture the room and where we were. My memory is that it was hardly crowded at all. The show has a lot of meaning for me because I was there with my brother, who passed away many years ago. The Clash show I remember well. It's in my personal top 5 of best shows I've seen. I'm going to assume "big" includes arenas (MSG, etc.) on up to stadiums and outdoor festivals, and "small" includes theaters (Beacon, Orpheum) on down, here's some of what I would include: Big: Any number of Dead shows, but these are always at the top of my list, including Roosevelt Stadium 1974 and 1976, MSG 9-20-90, the 1991 Boston Garden run, and the 2 May '77 shows I saw (St. Louis and Hartford). Given that we're "old" and that we're "saving money" by not going to JazzFest this year, we splurged and bought the VIP tickets, but if you didn't we'll find a way to connect. For me the attraction is the Allmans and 2 nights of Phil. Glad to see they added Gary Clarke Jr., and Stevie Winwood. It's a Peter Shapiro production, so I'm sure the lineup will fill out nicely.

Don't know where home is for you, but Butch spoke of a fall tour in a recent interview. Being that it's the final year, and I'm not making it to JazzFest this year, buddy and I decided to see as many Allmans shows as we can (live in Boston), so going to the Beacon for 1 show and made the plunge to go to Lockn Festival in VA September 4-7. Allmans playing one night there, with 2 nights of Phil and Friends, 2 nights of Widespread (with Stevie Winwood) and 2 nights of Ratdog. I'm figuring Warren/Mule and Derek/Susan likely to be added since the Allmans are already there.

And one of the coldest, windiest nights in Boston ever. We parked in the Boston Common garage and my buddy and I still talk about that walk across the Commons to get to the Orpheum. Fortunately the Replacements warmed us to the core with a great show.

That JFK '89 show is the Crimson White and Indigo release. Just this past Sunday I had the house to myself, popped in the DVD and watched the second set. An outstanding show! I had forgotten how great this show was. Seeing Jerry engaged and into it definitely tugged at my heart. A great year for the Dead, and I can't speak to having listened to every show, but this one has to be up there. Great topic, I need to give it some thought.

The "strangest" (and "WORST") comes quickly to mind: Zak Wylde filling in for DIckey Betts with the Allmans at Great Woods, Betts was arrested in Albany the night before. I can't stand everything about Zak Wylde. There must be many more "strangest" but not "worst" for me, I'll have to give it some thought. Right now my brain has been shutdown by the memory of Wylde and that bullseye guitar on stage with the Allmans.

Just go. You shouldn't go through life without getting to see Derek and Warren play together. Chances are dwindling.

Don't know why that would be, but I'm not here to defend Mayer from all this criticism out there. May be well deserved for all I know. But sticking to the music, the guy is a phenomenal guitarist, and I especially like the blues format of the Trio. He "found" the Grateful Dead last year while holed up in Montana recovering from throat surgery and all his Hollywood douchiness. Watched one of the Seth Myers shows from this week. Had the John Mayer Trio, with Chick Corea. Mayer was wearing a jacket, when he turned around he had a big Stealie embroidered on the back of his jacket.
