  1. can someone let me know what the set times were? How long did Blitzen Trapper play? I see at the Richmond show DBT did 32 songs, which seems like a very long set after an opener. Did BT play a full hour opening set? Thanks.
  2. I saw Muscle Shoals recently. Thought it was excellent. I've always known of the studio, but was unaware there was a house band, like the MG's in Memphis. Great movie. Skydog. Sent from my Windows Phone using Tapatalk
  3. Great to hear. Catching the show next Tuesday. Sent from my Windows Phone using Tapatalk
  4. Thanks for all the words on Blitzen Trapper. I'll see if I can wrestle my gang in early to catch them.
  5. Finally making it down for a show at Brooklyn Bowl. Soulive, with tonight's announced guests Susan Tedeschi, Joe Russo and Bill Evans. Maybe a Derek Trucks showing after the Allmans finish at the Beacon? #Bowlive5!
  6. I think all that lauding and mystique has substantially dissipated over the years. He's mostly seen as an oddball now, at least in the circles I travel in and things I read.
  7. Seeing this show in Boston on Friday (after a trip to Brooklyn for Bowlive). Be sure to let us know how it goes. I saw a recent setlist, 35 songs. Don't know anything about Blitzen Trapper, deciding whether to skip, so any input would be welcome. Can't wait.
  8. Excellent! Did you submit for the Dead Covers Project on Dead.net? Which one is you?
  9. Yeah, especially coming out of the Mass MoCA benefit the night before, that room is not exactly acoustically ideal. What a difference a night made.
  10. In the spirit of Smells Like Flowers, have to say I was also at the Wilco show at the Bushnell in 2012. First time for me in that theater, what a fantastic venue!
  11. I don't remember much about the Ramones show. I can picture the room and where we were. My memory is that it was hardly crowded at all. The show has a lot of meaning for me because I was there with my brother, who passed away many years ago. The Clash show I remember well. It's in my personal top 5 of best shows I've seen. Looks like the date was March 9, 1980. It was probably the loudest show I've ever been to. I was first year of law school at BU. Went with a group of friends, we started off in our seats in the balcony, but at some point a few of us ended up in some seats on the flo
  12. Not really a "guest" performance since they've done this several times, but The Meter Men. Page McConnell playing with 3 of the original Meters. It works.
  13. I'm going to assume "big" includes arenas (MSG, etc.) on up to stadiums and outdoor festivals, and "small" includes theaters (Beacon, Orpheum) on down, here's some of what I would include: Big: Any number of Dead shows, but these are always at the top of my list, including Roosevelt Stadium 1974 and 1976, MSG 9-20-90, the 1991 Boston Garden run, and the 2 May '77 shows I saw (St. Louis and Hartford). Any number of Phish shows, including shows at Worcester Centrum, Great Woods, Boston Garden Every year I went to Jazz Fest Every Solid Sound Small (impossible to list only 3, this list will
  14. Excellent! Let's definitely meet up. Given that we're "old" and that we're "saving money" by not going to JazzFest this year, we splurged and bought the VIP tickets, but if you didn't we'll find a way to connect. For me the attraction is the Allmans and 2 nights of Phil. Glad to see they added Gary Clarke Jr., and Stevie Winwood. It's a Peter Shapiro production, so I'm sure the lineup will fill out nicely.
  15. Agreed, I don't know if anything could top this in the "strange" category.
  16. Don't know where home is for you, but Butch spoke of a fall tour in a recent interview. Being that it's the final year, and I'm not making it to JazzFest this year, buddy and I decided to see as many Allmans shows as we can (live in Boston), so going to the Beacon for 1 show and made the plunge to go to Lockn Festival in VA September 4-7. Allmans playing one night there, with 2 nights of Phil and Friends, 2 nights of Widespread (with Stevie Winwood) and 2 nights of Ratdog. I'm figuring Warren/Mule and Derek/Susan likely to be added since the Allmans are already there.
  17. And one of the coldest, windiest nights in Boston ever. We parked in the Boston Common garage and my buddy and I still talk about that walk across the Commons to get to the Orpheum. Fortunately the Replacements warmed us to the core with a great show.
  18. That JFK '89 show is the Crimson White and Indigo release. Just this past Sunday I had the house to myself, popped in the DVD and watched the second set. An outstanding show! I had forgotten how great this show was. Seeing Jerry engaged and into it definitely tugged at my heart. A great year for the Dead, and I can't speak to having listened to every show, but this one has to be up there. Great topic, I need to give it some thought.
  19. The "strangest" (and "WORST") comes quickly to mind: Zak Wylde filling in for DIckey Betts with the Allmans at Great Woods, Betts was arrested in Albany the night before. I can't stand everything about Zak Wylde. There must be many more "strangest" but not "worst" for me, I'll have to give it some thought. Right now my brain has been shutdown by the memory of Wylde and that bullseye guitar on stage with the Allmans.
  20. Just go. You shouldn't go through life without getting to see Derek and Warren play together. Chances are dwindling.
  21. No Solid Sound this year, but you can see Beck at MassMoCA on June 24, tix on sale tomorrow http://www.jambands.com/news/2014/03/11/beck-adds-spring-and-summer-tour-dates/#.Ux8-F86wWBp
  22. They are playing 2 days at the Lockn Festival September 4-7.
  23. Don't know why that would be, but I'm not here to defend Mayer from all this criticism out there. May be well deserved for all I know. But sticking to the music, the guy is a phenomenal guitarist, and I especially like the blues format of the Trio. He "found" the Grateful Dead last year while holed up in Montana recovering from throat surgery and all his Hollywood douchiness. Said was making it his mission to introduce a generation to the music of the Dead. Saw him at Crossroads this year, did a new song Queen California that totally channeled Garcia. Swear he turned the Garden into a 199
